Pretty sure he was Katrinas dad someone will know . Noel Gibson also trained . I remember he trained a handy one but can't remember it's name . Knight Express was one he trained that Tommy Knowles drove .
Noel Taylor yes he was a very handy trainer . I was good friends with Neil Allen who you will remember . I bumped into Neil about 20 - 25 years ago and he was a Policeman and seemed to be enjoying life

Can't quite recall Charlie. Am pretty sure Katrina was a fine horsewoman herself and prepared a few of the ATC president Ron Robertson 's horses for him.
Nat McKenzie was a helping hand in that. Katrina might have even won the Lady drivers race with Eagles Three I think . not sure if it was Ron's.
Ron Robertson would of got the ATC mess sorted a bit quicker if someone like him in charge. A fine President. He used to have Max Harvey , and even PM Piggy Muldoon there getting in on the action. Ron raced a few with Wayne Fleet as partner too.
Not sure if Noel Taylor was in on them . But Noel could train a bit too. Do you remember Dragon's Pride ? an expensive SI purchase by ATC Committee man Noel . Roy and Barry couldn't get it going at all, a major shock , so Noel started training it himself and it started Trotting like a Stag , and won a fair few. Bravo to Noel !!. whatta ripper man he was.

Major Hot could finish top four, Pure mate? He's a derby winner and has a good track record. Hart driving also a plus. Rubira the hardest to beat in my opinion.

Pure Steel reacted to Thejanitor in First shots fired
He's in Brisbane, old mate. The Master trainer putting the Mark Purdon polish on Rubira and Oscar. Adam Sanderson will drive both. The young fulla has driven them well in lead up races so I am glad the Purdons have shown faith in him. Go Rubira! Go Oscar! 😃

Well the Chariots of Fire Winner , Bay of Biscay (and his Emma Stewart) stablemate War Dan Buddy have had to Scratch from the Group 1 The Rising Sun , with no plane flight available.
Mr Iraklis possibly firing a surface to air missile to stop the plane, thinking this is now a Ukraine type war ? 😋 and has Got the great New Zealanders of David and Stacey White into the field off the Rising Sun emergency list with their pacer BETTER THAN CASH. to be driven by top kiwiman Bob Butt.
David and Stacey have the Favourite for the Interdominion trot Series in 'BET N WIN' .he's in race 6 Saturday night too. (at 9.52 NZ time) don't miss it.
something interesting too > Last year David and Stacey won our prestigious rich QLD Derby training, with NZer Major Hot. and now a year later I see he (Major Hot) is back too. Now in the care of Jason Grimson (the gun 'Swayzee' NZ Cup man) for a crack at The Rising Sun as well. should be well held though.

Well she is in the $50,000 consolation Race 1 Saturday night instead, so she can get a Win in that.
They're dreaming if they thought they could beat 'Fate Awaits' and the Star of the Show 'The Janitor' . ( an excellent horse like the excellent bloke at RP 😉)
or even RUBIRA , that is in this $300,000 race repping for New Zealand. they would of carved her to Pieces.
so don't fret old son 😉 . You might Just very well Win the Feature and the Consolation as it stands !! 🏆🏆
(I believe my 'Cannon' from Victoria has missed the plane up for the race . Bay of Biscay from Emma Stewarts might be a scratching (unless gets some very late transport) , did you fire a Missile at the horse- plane Rakman ? to look after ye old mate Mark Purdon a bit ? 😅

A Harness Pick 6 was compulsory for me every time one ran, it was one way of getting a reasonable return with a smallish bet out of decreasing field sizes. Now the fields are even smaller, and a Quaddie is the best they can offer in its place. Disheartening. Now some meetings l still have a go, only if there are some decent feature races to watch, but other nights l don't even bother at all.

Bloody oath Iraklis mate.
Rubira too powerful, bolted in. The Purdons can still turn them out better prepared than most. He looks a staying horse to me old mate he'll keep running. Rubira will keep on improving and when the Master Mark Purdon arrives in Brisbane to apply the Purda Polish and Rubira will get even better.
Go Rubira!!

Great start Rakman . Super Impressive wins alright 🏆 . NZ 'Boot scooting' to victory last night at wee old Redcliffe Derby and Oaks.
'RUBIRA' and 'Captains Mistress' storming to brilliant victories against the best locals we could Muster , and left them Line Dancing for the minors. 😁.
But Throw away that that Billy Ray Cyrus record now old mate !! , . ( and warm up the Tchaikovsky 1812 overture 😁 )
I'm ringing Victoria trainer Emma Stewart (has exceptional young horses) , to bring in the 'Cannon's' for the Group 1's QLD Derby and Oaks and Rising Sun coming up soon .
FIRST SHOTS fired by the NZ 'Big Bazooka''s last night , tearing apart our 'machine guns' of Dixons and McMullens . Bring on the 'Cannon's' !!
it's War out there 😎

yes the last time we had The Interdominion broadcast on TV in Australia was 'Beautide' winning his 2nd one, way back in 2015 at Menangle on ABC TV channel.
Since then , a 24 hour, 7 day per week racing channel is broadcast Free to Air in Australia, and yet they only Broadcast 2 Nights of harness per year . Victoria Cup night and Hunter Cup night.
Absolute 1000's of galloping races are broadcast, from far flung places even, and yet we can't get the Interdominion on once per year 😪.
So the harness horse has Indeed near Disappeared Altogeather from general Public like you say. even though we Have the Greatest One Of all time racing currently in LEAP TO FAME. Leap To Fame won the Hunter Cup and Swayzee (your double NZ Cup winning champion) won the Victoria Cup on TV ,
so at the very least the 2 Superstars of our great Sport got to be on TV . a small something I spose 🙄.

That heart about to be broken , or a big Heart Attack at the least Rakman.😉
in the Pacers Interdominion, If Pinseeker and Jonny Cox is your NZ best to take on Monster 'Larry' and defending Interdominion Champ 'The Don' then your NZ chances are slimmer than slim.
Wasn't long ago 'Larry' and ''The Don Hugo' visited Cambridge in your biggest race for the M💰illion Bucks Betcha race. Pinseeker finished a handy 5th I spose , but about 6 lengths behind the Leaping To Fame Larry . so wouldn't get your hopes up too high old mate.
And in the Trotting Interdominion , Old 'OscarBonavena' and your young gun 'Bet N Win' about 5 lengths behind Aus Star trotter 'Arcee Phoenix' in the Big TAB trot too at Cambridge. so might be needing a bit of a 'Heart booster' to stay in touch at Brisvegas ? . we'll keep the defibrillator handy.😎
Borrow a copy of Billy Ray Cyrus singing the 'hearty' tune Achy Breaky Heart to get yourself ready for the action ? 😉 .

Cheers Iraklis

Pure Steel reacted to Blaird in Whats your punting strategy?
One of my strategies is for Western Australia. Backing Peters Investments horses only. The pink with the white cross saches. Doesn't always work but when it does, like yesterday it is very profitable. They had 7 runners for 3 winners and 2 quinella. Winners paid $1.70, $6.80 and $13.40 (could have got $21's on fixed odds). Quinella's paid $5.20 and $39.00. Total spend was $30, return was $200.

I also like the Highways and Midways in Sydney. Good races for a roughie more often than not. I am not a big bettor but love to have a few bets every Saturday.
I have started taking Jockeys Challenges as well. For a few $$ you can have an interest all day for small outlay especially now you can take win and place. Great topic.

Good stuff Alf. And your next 32 bets are with their money! Keeping it simple and with good guidelines - way to go.

Pure Steel reacted to Alf Riston in Whats your punting strategy?
Good topic Nerula - I had wondered the same thing over time, so it's good to see the various strategies at play.
First and foremost, like many others, my main priority is entertainment, so the thrill of a decent size collect has seen me typically avoiding favourites, and for quite a few years, my strategy was to chase small % of big divvies in Trebles and Quaddies (with the odd decent collect along the way)
For the last couple of years I have switched to multis as my entertainment to pull something decent out of the bag, and here's some of the ingredients I use when putting them together:
No NZ racing
Australian METRO racing only, primarily VIC & NSW, and QLD on occasion for the bigger meetings - this means I am only really scanning through 20 to 30 races on a weekend to find the value I want
Course record ,Rack conditions and first up / 2nd up performance (so a preference for horses that have 10 or more starts, as a general rule
James Cummings - quality horses, well prepared with good jockey selections
TOP4 - has become a game changer and probably accounts for 80% of my multi selections - Win, Top2 and Top3 can be included on something I think is a big chance with reasonable value
$1.45 to $3.50 is the target range as a rule, anything shorter doesn't multi out enough, and longer than $3.50 is probably too risky (again just a general rule)
Any 4 / 6 is the main formula - 4 (66% strike rate) usually funds another attempt, 5 with some decent divvies can be nice enough, and when you manage 6 / 6 it's a nice bonus (see below)
Limit to 1, maybe 2 multis per week as the only form of betting, but if winning a few ride the wave with a few more over the weekend
$50 to $75 spend - the weekly allowance I give myself - this is now spent on one bet / format, rather than scattered everywhere across various betting options
I'd taken a bit of a break from racing for various reasons, but randomly felt the urge to have a go a couple weeks back and it was a nice fresh up effort 👍🙂
Any decent collects get withdrawn and banked in the Holiday account 🙂
