Something to the effect that one in five Kiwis will leave school with no qualifications, no mathematical skills, no reading ability etc etc... And then he made a very telling remark: 'Give us the money and the resources to fix this...' So, for all his apparent faults, he does at least appreciate there is a problem ... and he knows exactly the demographics of the folk who need the help... Unfortunately, I sincerely doubt - just look at the unemployable youth who paraded down the entrance to the marae in support of him - that flinging money and resources at that problem is going to fix things... What is needed is for some really radical Maori - and I see none out there at present - to say 'Look, fellas, protest is all very well. But we are now within 3 years of the Treaty Claims being finally and irrevocably being settled. It's time for us as Maori to be saying to our youth that they must go to school, they must apply themselves, they must get qualifications and, yes, when they have done all that they must leave places like the East Coast and Northland and go find employment... It is time the "media" concentrated on the past history of the mother from hell. The thousands of dollars she and her whanau ripped off from the taxpayers via a complicent government to set up a mental health unit for maori mental health patients without any experience in that area, and installed her daughters as nurses witout any qualifications at megabuck saleries. The result was she was imprisoned for causing serious injury to a patient by screwing his balls when he tried to touch up one of her whanau.
