Excellent thread Bruce, and also agree - my take is if the TAB (and presenters) are "pushing it", stay away. All of their fixed odds markets should have the market data with it... and as you highlight, at least with Tote betting you can reasonably easily find the take out (and it is static, doesn't change race by race). SRM and Fixed Odds Exotics should not be in anyone's long term punting strategy.

The Oxford English Dictionary attributes the term to horse racing. Meets formerly had the same horses run several "heats" in a day, with victors being decided by the total number of wins. A heat which had no clear single winner was discounted from these tallies and was therefore "dead".

Racing Act changes to boost racing industry sustainability
SingaporeSling replied to MrBigStuff's topic in Thoroughbred Cafe
And perhaps I am missing something when looking at this statement, but aren't Entain UK based (a foreign company), and I assume over the next 25 years they fully intend to send money (probably lots of it) offshore? “This is a positive outcome which will have national impact. Retaining this money in New Zealand will not only maximise funding to our communities instead of providing profits to foreign companies but also ensure Kiwis can bet in a safe and regulated environment,” Roberts said. One thing with the old TAB model was the money passing thru it all sloshed around in NZ in some shape or form. -
and the “First Eleven” are Bert Sutcliffe John Reid Jackie Lord Trish McKelvey Glenn Turner Sir Richard Hadlee Debbie Hockley Martin Crowe Emily Drumm Daniel Vettori Brendon McCullum
-
Yep, agree with you both on Glenn Turner being likely in the initial eleven. Mike, I assume the eleven (at first) is just an obvious number for a inaugural Cricket Hall of Fame. Others will be added as time goes on. Also no idea if they feel the need to balance the men and women in todays PC world.
-
NZ Cricket Hall Of Fame Okay, for those Cricket nuts on here - who is in the inaugural eleven for the new NZ Cricket Hall Of Fame? It is both Men/Women, across all formats (Test, ODI, and T20), and not current players (or those who played in the past 5 years). Selected based on performance, leadership, influence and character. They have indicated the first eleven are from WW11 onwards to current time (would have to have retired in 2019 to qualify so no Ross Taylor for example). The pre WW11 means Stewie Dempster is not in the mix (Averaged 65 in his 10 tests from 1930 to 1933), or I suspect Martin Donnelly (Averaged 52 in 7 tests 1937 - 1949), and not sure on Jack Cowie (45 Test Wickets at 21 1937 -1949) I will make a start - as there are 3 NZers in the ICC Hall of Fame, safe to assume they will be in the NZ Hall of Fame as well, so Hadlee, Hockley, and Crowe. Leaves eight more? Needless to say, many played in an era we are not familiar with, or when Cricket (especially women’s) was not so well-broadcast. Makes it hard. Here are my eight (very likely to change my mind in the days ahead) Daniel Vettori Bert Sutcliffe Haidee Tiffeen Emily Drumm Brendon McCullum John Wright Jackie Lord (Bowler from late 60s/ early 70s, Averaged 19 in 10 Tests, and Averaged 12.72 in 10 ODIs) Ian Smith Means quite a few missing out like Walter Hadlee, Sara McGlashan, Shane Bond, Nathan Astle, Stephen Fleming etc. Also feels like I have missed a whole era in my picks. Anyone else got a guess?
-
Does anyone know if it got settled, from my calculations 12 working days has now lapsed?
-
Hi Condor, Yep - soon after the platform upgrade in May, Entain sent me a similar email, re use of Promotion Bets.... certainly others have got them as well. What is annoying, even now after 6 months, is they still pitch Bonus's, Boosted Odds, Promotions on their various channels (Trackside) or Ads, but obviously not for all. Just means I avoid watching (and betting) unless something I specifically want to see. Also frustrating is they turn off ALL communications as well (treat you as persona non grata). No email updates, or Blackbookers (as marked in your TAB account) etc. I guess if could be worse, if in Aus, they would simply shut your account down, but as they have the monopoly here they can't, I gather, do that?

Good Luck to the Scorer today, and happy tipping all. Many thanks Scooby and Idolmite for sponsoring the Comp. Indeed Black Kirrama, spent quite a few long humid afternoons in the Long Bar at Raffles, but was never in the band, always loved the tradition of the peanut shells strewn all over the floor (a cleaners nightmare!) 1. Spring Superstars (multi-format) comp - Results thread
SingaporeSling replied to say no more's topic in Thoroughbred Cafe
Thanks John, and like you, the racing is a bit on the back burner and the cricket has my interest at present! Well played everyone, and thanks Scooby for this Comp. Like you I really enjoy this live or die format. Best of both worlds, i.e. elements of LGL, and standard tipping. Look forward to the final round next week, and not sure if you want me to choose the format for the Grand Final now John, but if I can, I would go for the option voted No. 2 in the Poll. "Round 2 - three picks (trifecta, quinella , e/w)", which should technically keep all 12 in it until the last race of the last round. cheers, Singapore Sling -

Was it placed on the TAB site, or via Betcha? I gather Betcha will do deductions for scratchings, whereas the TAB still don't?
-
Not sure it is dishonesty, likely just a difference on terminology, but agree it should be consistent and understood by all involved. Even the term "overnight" and "last 24 hours" is probably used interchangeably by many. Official NZTR Meeting news this a.m. shows 35mm in last 24 hours (up to 6.45am, and oddly also 35mm in the update at 10.13am) https://loveracing.nz/RaceInfo/46268/Meeting-News-Article.aspx
