  1. John's Pal and Harry's Pal, appear to be named after two of Louis and Wini's four children, John and Harry. They were trained and successful in the early 1970's. What a wonderful legacy and great way to include family.
  2. With Ross Coles retirement, it's timely to ask , what steps in the Education sector are undertaking ensuring future generations know about these career options in New Zealand? Who is taking on Ross's position? They will need great horse riding skills, people skills and how to behave diplomatically and professionaly with TV cameras. Sam Spratt? Retired Justice Simon Moore? Where are applications advertised for people to apply? Local newspapers? Schools? Hunt and Pony Clubs?
  3. Peter Louis was 72 in 1981 - so if he was still alive would be how young? It's nice to reflect on his contributions and this of his era. He will be looking down from above at these posts... Terribly sad about what appears also to be at their original family home as he got married around 1949/ 1950.
  4. WD (Bill) Wylie, when he was 26, leased Lucrative Lodge on the outskirts of Carterton, Wairarapa, era 1964.
  5. What year was that @tripple alliance?
  6. Perhaps it was Peter Louis original family home as it was built circa 1950's - if the information about that property is the same one as on Property website public records. Was there a Peter Louis senior who originally had this home built ? If so, he owned Master Dash in the Futurity in February 1947, trained by HR Telford. Chronicle ( Levin) 22 February 1947, pg 5 Peter Louis To see his Horse Run.
  7. Colour code perhaps? Clover Green and Daisy White? Not sure if Rainbow would work as could be mistaken for other multiple meanings these days. We all have Rights to be forgotten too - there's some International legal decisions readily available to read if you choose to in regards to online forums and in general. Ireland made a decision involving that last year and the person involved now has " Anonymous". It's something we all have to consider at some stage with our online hoof prints. Thanks
  8. Tie Ho! We fact check and cross reference thanks so no idea where the Conspiracy Theories nonsense is coming from. Synthetic Surface Race Tracks planned by Robin Charteris in London - Press 31 Dec 1986 PG 25 Grass Obsolete Synthetic sod superior Playing field surface - Press 8 November 1969 PG 11. Hope that helps explain our contributions. Cheers
  9. Gosh we wish Woolworths would stop stocking shelves overnight so those working those shifts would help reduce our Energy use and we could get a decent night sleep as they wake us up! We are happy with Birds waking us up around 3 to 5 am when it's their time but not neighbors coming and going for work that needs to go back to between 7am to 11pm Quiet hours.. We have an Energy Crises!
  10. See our other post today under Ellerslie Trials. Go do the reading and put in questions and submit letters, get a discussion going in other arenas because it's the only way to ensure the balance of scales returns to Horse Racing. Racing needs to stand up also in relation to the use of "Artificial substances". When was the last time any Race course had Wood ash spread on them to regenerate? Besides where they have had arsonists. Wood Ash, horse manure are nature's wonders along with the poor wee Earth Worms. Do any of the Race clubs have a self sustainable Compost for Food scraps? I bet you our bottom dollar they don't, yet they could be seen to be leading the way there and to trade with Pig Farmers like any sensible operator used to. It's about doing the right thing all around - the wider Ecological systems.
  11. Government have recently set up a Cone Hotline service - feel free to use it Details on Worksafe website amongst other places. Frankly we are over the use of them. How do they impact on the environment? Plastics?? Did anyone consult the animals and nature about the impacts on their lives with all these synthetics / Artificial worlds? The research available to read in PPNZ archives from the 1960's focus was on Injury prevention funded by Monsanto. It's worthy of a read about Artificial Turf, Grass, Greens in Papers Past NZ archives as to get an understanding of context and putting them anywhere in the world. Monsanto pops up as does Westinghouse, Hollywood Turf and discussions on Hockey, Cricket, Bowls and UK Racing in 1986 YUPPIE era. @stodge We laughed when we read and were reminded the silliness behind them was to save on maintenance to only need to Vacuum clean them instead of mowing lawns ... Why have them when we have Animals to graze our lands unlike in some countries. Can't say we have seen anyone get out the Vacuum cleaner at Ellerslie!!! Have you? Perhaps those in other locations where synthetics etc are used can let us know if they have. Also mentioned in archives is that in the case of Porritt Park, Christchurch was been saddled with a $250,000 mortgage when they went through motions to get Artificial Turf for Hockey. Now Racing's been saddled with masses of debt. Have all conflicts of interest been disclosed in regards to works undertaken that impact Racing? Including any Secret Commissions in the background?
  12. Have a browse through Papers Past NZ archives and collate racedays they used to have and put in a community submission to get racing there back more often. It pops up under Manawatu Trots. There used to be "Manawatu Harness Carriage" maker in the Manawatu, as they were elsewhere. We need our racing back into our rural communities as that's what social cohesion is about and what keeps an economy in health as our forebears thoughtfully did for our benefits. It's beyond belief that the last 20 or so years the wider Racing sector, and society, has had such appalling application of Legislation by those in charge of Governance. If they were competent, they would be ensuring all communities retained there original Racecourses for there intended purposes. Races are sponsored by local community people in whatever way to help promote the economy. Do they still have The Gorge handicap race? @john legend @Alicia Harrison @Pure Steel and others including local Council staff and governors across the whole of New Zealand take note and sort your acts out.
  13. Well they puckerood that then didn't they? Musk's "Grok" is "Korg" which is Japanese Musical keyboard spelt in reverse. There used to a band named Grok from the Waikato, or should that be Why Cat Oh, that won Battle of the Bands... Grok is a family name also with links to the UK. As an aside, look up the history of Ron Gordon who invented computer Translation services in the 1970's-1980's - he realised it was a little to difficult to get it correct. Hope Musk, and Ng from Google, are paying him or his family Royalties for the use of his creations.
  14. Let's all ensure he gets a nomination and Kings Honors New Years Honor!
  15. Cheers for this. How many of you people learnt "Shorthand"? How times change but don't really change. "Do" is an abbreviation of old for "Ditto" Life evolves but doesn't really change with Artificial Intelligence or Automated Robotic systems when one reflects on various Communications. Body Cameras have been in existence since 1800's and surprisingly Video Cameras with Text capabilities Telegraphy systems were Invented by Pollak-Virag in the early 1900's! it's unknown if they have been paid any Royalties in recent times for the use of their Inventions.
  16. Oh so sorry @JJ Flash but others may be interested. London UK High Courts Financial List may be doing this case Livestream so those interested can watch it as it unfolds. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/business-and-property-courts-rolls-building-cause-list/business-and-property-courts-of-england-and-wales-cause-list#financial-list-chancery-divisionqueens-bench-division-commercial-court Melanie Porter May 15, 2025 3 min read Entain Faces New Investor Lawsuit Amid Ongoing Legal Woes Entain has been hit with another group claim from investors over past financial disclosures, as legal troubles continue to mount for the giant https://www.gamblingnews.com/news/entain-faces-new-investor-lawsuit-amid-ongoing-legal-woes/ Entain, the global betting powerhouse behind brands like Ladbrokes and Coral, is facing fresh legal pressure from a group of major institutional investors. Financial Market-Related Claim, “at a Very Early Stage” The claim, recently filed with London’s High Court, is being led by U.S. law firm Morgan, Lewis & Bockius and involves firms such as Brown Brothers Harriman Trustee Services, State Street Bank and Trust Company, Northern Trust Company, and The Reliance Trust Company, acting as trustees for large investment funds. The legal action was registered on the Financial List, which is a part of the High Court that deals with complex financial cases. The claim relates to financial market matters, although specific details remain under wraps for now. A spokesperson for Entain acknowledged the claim in a statement to City AM, saying Entain was “aware of this claim but has not yet been formally served with it” and explaining the matter was “at a very early stage.” The spokesperson added that the company that was recently accused of neglecting money laundering red flags in Australia “intends to defend any proceedings robustly”. Not Its First Rodeo This latest lawsuit follows another group claim initiated by Fox Williams in August 2024. That case was brought after Entain’s share price dropped significantly in the wake of its settlement with UK tax authorities. The fall came as the Crown Prosecution Service announced a deferred prosecution agreement (DPA) with Entain over alleged historical misconduct related to its now-sold Turkish business. The agreement was linked to bribery investigations covering the period from July 2011 to December 2017. Although Entain exited its Turkish operations in 2017, the aftermath proved costly. The DPA required Entain to pay out a total of £615 million, including £585 million ($777 million) in penalties and profit disgorgement, £20 million ($26 million) to charitable causes, and £10 million ($13 million) to cover HMRC’s legal fees. The controversy also sparked internal legal friction. At the start of the year, former chief executive officer Kenny Alexander and ex-chairman Lee Feldman took legal action against Entain and its legal advisers, Addleshaw Goddard, to uncover what was shared with prosecutors during the investigation. Amid the legal chaos, Entain is also going through leadership changes. At the end of last month, Stella David was officially appointed as the group’s permanent CEO, replacing Gavin Isaacs, who served less than six months in the role. David, having twice held the interim post, is now tasked with steadying the ship and delivering long-term growth.Despite the mounting legal issues, Entain’s latest financial results in March showed a 12% rise in annual profit, helped by strong online performance and a rebound in its UK and Irish operations.
  17. Ross is retiring from his role as Clerk of the Course. He will be greatly missed. A fabulous all around contributor and ambassador to our Equine sector who many have had the pleasure of been introduced to patting a horse and the equine world who are all the more enriched as a result. We hope all those who meet him over his 60 years plus contributions have either encouraged others, or taken up a career in the wider sector as participants. Enjoy your retirement with family and friends and acquaintances Ross Thank you for your service is the last race at Ellerslie Racecourse on Saturday https://img.nzracing.co.nz/RaceInfo/53355/Meeting-Overview.aspx Enjoy a couple of reflective articles on him from days gone by https://img.nzracing.co.nz/News/47756/RossColes-EllerslieClerkOfTheCourse.aspx Twelve Questions: Ross Coles NZ Herald 4 Mar, 2014 05:30 AM6 mins to read https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/racing/twelve-questions-ross-coles/LQMIDHH7NK55JVQ546YLU5AR6Y/
  18. How do we users identify those who may not know the late greats who are now dead who used to frequent here? Any chance of perhaps having a system in place so all users can know? Thanks
  19. A couple also involved in the wider Equine sector also received deserved honours King’s Birthday Honours 2025: Rural recipients’ round-up The Country 2 Jun, 2025 05:05 AM28 mins to read https://www.nzherald.co.nz/the-country/news/kings-birthday-honours-2025-rural-recipients-round-up/K3ZFZWWBJFBSDKTRYV5JXSQRAY/
  20. Keep an eye on AUSTRAC website, and traditional News media Publications and / or websites looking up Entain, however be mindful of the fact due process is adhered to as matters are subjudice so forbidden to be discussed. Entain are in Court in Australia with AUSTRAC on 4 August 2025. Thanks to those traditional Investigative Journalists for there articles in regards to this. There's also other matters going on in other jurisdictions to be aware of.
  21. The AUSTRAC investigation has been going on for a while and appears to relate primarily between 2019 -2022 era which is in part during Covid legislation era. It includes matters relating to a "Business" person from New Zealand putting through over $10 million of monies, AML issues which comes as no surprise and is unfortunately commonplace with Online trade. It's not like certain private information and financial matters can be cross checked for validity - they are not a bank for instance. People need to be mindful there's quite complex laws relating to AML including Enhanced Due Diligence, Risk factors, and each countries Risk. factors in accordance with The Financial Action Taskforce (FAFT) regulatory body. This is more so now with vast migration and Digital Nomad era with cross border legislation and use of VPNs, and the push to paperless and Bricks & Mortar less. We all knew each other by names at our local TAB and Local Racecourse. Whereas online international trade is quite different. Suggest to have a look online at reputable Investigative Journalists News media to see what is going on with Entain. The people of NZ have good reason to have concerns. Meanwhile there's a date set in Courts on 4 August 2025 for AUSTRAC matters so it's likely to be subjudice - as in forbidden to be discussed.
  22. Have you seen the decision relating to Hastings Golf Course and Aerodrome Town planning for housing on the Golf Course declined? Worthy of a read.
  23. Robertson? Small world these people are in and it just got that much smaller - credit where it's due to archived materials and previously great Investigations including journalism. Of course they will have kept all Communications between them as required by law to ensure transparency, including WhatsApp etc?
  24. Has Bill Birnie paid back all the monies he got out of investors over the years? We see the property at Pureroa Peninsula in the Bay of Islands he planned to build a Golf Course is for sale. Thanks @RacingJackReacher for the heads up Well worthy of others having a look through his history and flow on impacts to other's lives and our wider economy. 1980's sharemarket is an era known to many of great loss all around. We wonder what Bruce Shepherd who stood up for investors thinks of these appointments involving Birnie and his associates. As an aside, we see Birnie and Sam STUBBS share a few common links to their histories. Sorry but others monies, including Public Funds, are not there to fund those who put themselves into debts as appears on the surface to have and be happening. Have there been any Secret Commissions along the way? Have Government Tenders been carried out with Transparency and Due Diligence? Serious Fraud Office Investigate Transnational financial crime for those who may know finer details that may need to come to light.
  25. Racecourses are covered within the Domains Act legislation carried forward from 1882 and more recently 1977 Reserves Act. They are required to be kept in perpetuity for the use of all members of the public never to be built on permanently - same argument/ discussions are going on in Auckland with Western Springs Stadium & Takapuna Golf course. It was Henry Glennie and his Medical mates who bent the rules that saw Ellerslie Racecourse sell of where Ascot Hospital is now in the mid 1980's . Those documents need sunlight who in Auckland Council authorised that sale because that shouldn't ever have happened. @RacingJackReacher None of what is now referred to as Co-Governed Maungas are also ever to have housing or permanent fixtures other than Troughs, fences, seats and shelters on them. Racecourses are also supposed to be listed as Historic Places of importance under Heritage NZ. That is something that needs to be looked into that they are listed as such as part of our Heritage.
