  1. 1, 5, 6, 11, 13, 19, 20, 22 we will be cheeky here, our alternatives are 3, 4, 6, 11, 12, 13, 15, 24 Best of luck to all. Galileo won on 1 November 1966 so did Tulloch on 1 November ...
  2. Good luck to all those at St Andrew's Retirement village for your Melbourne Cup Day event organised by Michael Floyd, x NZ bloodstock sales great. May you all have a fabulous day wherever you are and encourage Race day outings as part of Retirement village residents and elderly folk on their own well being as they have all had it super rough the last 3 years. To those in charge of NZ Racing, pull your socks up and involve our elderly with outings to the races.
  3. Congratulations to all the Australians who had success in New Zealand today racing horses...Anyone know the statistics??? Or do we have to wait til January??
  4. Ron Hutchinson is still alive, aged 94, according to Wikipedia page about him. He has achieved amazing accomplishments for a person growing up and living in the era he has in Racing. Now an interview with him would be a great story. Any Aussie or international media reading this, how about it????
  5. Now Trackside & Racing and Media in general, and those doing Sweepstakes, how about doing some real stories on Fun Facts and Melbourne Cup carnival? Thanks @Ponderosa for starting this topic
  6. According to Papers Past NZ archives using related keywords, in 1957, the year Tulloch won, jockey Ron Hutchinson won 10 races and Neville Sellwood was 2nd with 8 wins over the Carnival. Perhaps look further into historic records using their names to establish which races and race days they were. Hope that helps
  7. Have a look through Papers Past NZ in 10 year time frames, advanced search & preview of related Racing articles of races during that era, it's bound to pop up. Alternatively use keyword Percy Burgess in there as that should take you straight to the photos in PPNZ archives. Digital NZ Photo archives should also be useful
  8. Robert Roos interview is important to be aired in New Zealand. We stumbled on it via News.com.au People need to wake up. Ask the lady who was contracted to help with the NZ Covid19 Communications back in March 2020. She told us both Ardern and Bloomfield were reading word for word off a pre written script. It's overdue we had clean out and accountability from all working in Public Service positions as there's far too much gross incompetency and laziness crept in with 3rd world country migrants who copy and paste their English Proficiency standards. None of these people have a friggin clue about how Laws are written, nor do they adhere to them such is the Dumbing down of society to fit in those from 3rd world countries in countries where they have infiltrated and f**d up the lives and standards of living of people were once a higher educated class. Since when has it been ok to treat educated people like dummies? Kiri Hannifan and Helen Clark date back over 20 years and must be held to account. Ditto David Halpern and NUDGE who don't adhere to basics with legal writing.
  9. Interesting information coming out of European Parliament Question Time to PFIZER. Pack of Criminals. Politicians should be mindful they are not immune from Criminal Prosecutions and been held to account. Ditto mad scientists.
  10. They should all be forced to watch their presentations and waffle on repeated replay 12 x's to see how crap they have caused what used to be great Racing coverage in the media. They all need to learn from the late Phil Leishman and how to present Sport and Racing eloquently and in an interesting manner. Don't start me on SENZ Radio as it's the worst thing around in it's current format. Never have I heard such appalling repeated waffle. Those on SENZ need to be forced to listen to their crap at least 2 dozen times on repeated replay because that's how they friggin come across. A massive YAWN & BORING GUYS. The world is a fricken mess and the sheete show we are putting up with needs to change. Bring back Style, class & treat your listeners with the respect they deserve. They need to be taught proper Journalism and broadcasting standards. AI Reimaging Agenda is simply Garbage In, Garbage Out Tech b/s.
  11. There are many more delightful and memorable stories about the now late Her Majesty The Queen in her earlier days in Papers Past under her various titles, including that of Princess Elizabeth, the stories about her Trike Riding and tumbles, her mischief with her sister Margaret Rose and her beloved family and friends. How many really know the full story how Butter came to be named? Her dear friend of the same name also recently passed away. Her links to New Zealand and the breeding of Jersey Cattle. Up with all the great people and animals in Racing and her beloved husband, family and dogs. There's some great reunion and party going to happen in Rainbow Heaven.

  14. What are your fondest memories of Queen Elizabeth? Did you attend any Race meetings where she was? We recall her visit to Ellerslie Racecourse when she opened the new stand back in the 1990's, when Ellerslie had Gardeners & a well maintained Nursery where the public could buy Flowers & plants - we need that part of our Racing industry back in the limelight where it belongs. May Auckland Racing Club get off their backsides & restore the Glasshouses and Gardens to the glory we once had in memory of Queen Elizabeth - it's 100 years ago since the Glasshouses were built and parts of which came from England. It would be very fitting to undertake this and have the Flower Show back at Ellerslie and local Racecourses tied in with Race Meetings where Races are named after Queen Elizabeth We look forward to Charlie, who also enjoys his racing, continuing on his parents legacy.
  15. Sad passing of an incredibly remarkable lady who contributed much to the wider Sport of Kings & Queens, that of Horse Racing, and Grey hounds . Not only did she own, breed and ride horses, she also has been the glue to the wider side of the industry, the fashion & flowers & history of great race names & sponsors & places where Racing was. May we all take a moment to reflect on her life, and do our best to restore Racing back in local communities where it used to be for the betterment of Society, health & well being. Rest in Peace and thoughts are with the Family.
  16. People have been leaving New Zealand for Donkey's years @tripple alliance Ray Avery has always stuck his neck out. As for the comments about kids living in poverty, utter Bullsh*t, look in their families rubbish bins each week and see for yourself, they eat junk and are to quote the WEF, 'Useless Eaters'. Add to the mix, it's a well know fact 'surveys' are flawed hence why the world is in such a mess. One only needs to go back to original 'surveys' to see they usually are less than 500 people, if you are lucky they may reach 100, then they multiply those figures to massage them up. Surveys need to be scrutinized, and only be taken with a pinch of salt. It's overdue Arden, and her sidekick Helen Clark who shares tweets with - Antonio Gutteres (UN), Susan Michie (SAGE Communist Party UK and married to the FAKE Reverend who was outed in 2004 and tied in with the Lincolnshire Riots that of the so called Professor Robert West) were all held to account and thrown in jail for life. BTW, Perhaps it's overdue communications between all the above were disclosed to ensure the Integrity of Parliament.
  17. A little like Humans with vaseline and strapping when living with injuries then huh?
  18. Denis, or Denny, as we knew him, also did well at school sports. A wonderful man who has contributed much to racing now at rest and whose spirit shall forever live on. Always with a smile and friendly chat. One of the best who should have had a Queen's service award. https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/MATREC19370408.2.36
  19. A blast from the past about the two well known Peters... https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/CHP19770129.2.115.7 https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers?items_per_page=25&phrase=2&query=P+Setchell&snippet=true There's so many incredible stories and history tucked away in Papers Past and this one about Peter Setchell and his mother should touch everyone's heart. Remember the challenges those who are in advancing years have been through in life and treat them with the respect they deserve. Rest in Peace Peter https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/GISH19420121.2.102?items_per_page=25&phrase=2&query=G+Setchell&snippet=true
  20. Gone are the days of Politicians been people of good stock. The last few years have shown true colours of those in such roles having lack of common sense & lateral thinking. Racing had a few good representatives back when Falloon from the Waikato was a rep in Parliament. The problem for Racing lies fair & square in Universities who conduct research studies/ surveys & the like that are used for Political use - oft incredibly incompetent & flawed research that isn't even accurate, or demographic and multiplied to exaggerate results with shocking consequences and a lack of accountability of those "academics". Our Academic institutions need a major shake up before things will change.
  21. Rules of Racing have always been there re Criminal offences. Do they ever check those entering Racecourses ? There are skeletons in others closests and Racing Victoria finally are doing something about Historic sexual & other abuses of jockeys & industry participants, notably 1970's to 1980's eras and we know NZ also has a dark past with similar behaviour towards vulnerable persons who didn't know how to handle things. Perhaps NZ Racing should do the same and hold those people to account - some have remained unaccountable for to long for far worse and ongoing offending. As an aside, Will any of those closely associated with Aaron Drever, convicted Ex Real Estate Agent, & the wider Avondale region at the time, be caught up with for their unlawful associations? There's always a snowball effect and those people should also be held to account.
  22. Have a read of Lord Birkenhead's book written in 1930, The World in 2030 AD & there's a piece about Politicians standing up once a week & basically only working for 20 minutes. Who would have guessed? It raises the question, who has pushed for this book to become "fact" and "why"? Who has encouraged this book to be read in Academic or Political worlds? And where? We first stumbled on this book looking up the words, "In the year 2030" and variations of years, in Papers Past NZ and have shared it around bc it's incredible how "Fiction" gets turned into "Fact" despite certain Books clearly been written as "Fiction". One has to question if some of the things happening in the world are bc of those with English as a 2nd language and " Lost in Translation" and a complete lack of lateral thinking and lack of common sense society used to have before mass migration and the internet and Fake Degrees and other documents. The world is in a heck of a mess.
  23. Perhaps Olivia Newton-John & Taiki will have a sing song together up there in heaven. Does anyone know if Taiki sang any of her songs at Karaoke? Or have a recording of them? Japanese are well known for enjoying their Karaoke. Ted, do you have any info on this? Maybe raise it with his family.
  24. @Historian we should all be banding together and ensure all these Horse Racing Publications are included in Department of Internal Affairs Archives, namely Papers Past NZ in there own category. Perhaps it's timely we all pushed DIA to include them. It was a legal requirement to retain a copy of each NZ publication, e.g magazines, newspapers, etc as part of our heritage. Maybe contact them and ask who would have them. Those of you who have family & friends wanting to contribute positively to the publication online of these back dated publications, may like to put their hand up and help. Plenty of people have lost jobs in the last nearly 3 yrs and ensuring our Horse Racing publications are Archived with respect and in an orderly manner perhaps could be done by those with a genuine interest in the industry. Best
  25. They all need to learn about the real history of the world. Some great stuff about the West Coast, Wairau Bar etc and river stones and shingles in Papers Past NZ. Some plonkers think a pile of shells always belong to one race when the reality is everyone lived along the coastline because they all traveled by sailing vessels/ boats in the earlier days. Just like everyone ate shellfish and used the shells for footpaths and in their gardens and then in paving... Old archived European . UK Journals and newspapers along with Papers Past NZ National library websites make for great reading. Ever heard of the Kinzett, Needham and Plant families? Do you recall when there was an outrage from Academics about the Littlewood Treaty Document that surfaced in the late 1980's? It's understood it was handed down through the generations from back in the early 1800's. Plenty if records as to who was on land where in archives. Gone are the days of a lackmof accountability by acadoomics
