  1. well mate I paid 200 do drive his and paid for a ticket to Invercargill- 200 a horse is better stakemoney than he usually gets - say 5 horses 1k-- it was about money-stop being a tosser put your name up in lights mate.
  2. mate he did it for the money and good luck to him-u have to eat. same as dual carts decent money paid.u can hate the amateurs all you like- call us incompetent u tosser but lots of trainers like them - free labour and there would be 40 or so horses in stables that are paid for that wouldn't otherwise be there- u must just like bagging people-but there are heaps like you-get off your arse at 5am in the morning in the cold and the shit and the muck and see how good you go.
  3. thanks matt I actually got ore satisfaction from idle bones- man go put his nuts on the line and things have gone wrong and he was copping stick- no hope tonight but maybe an aussie campaign beckons- need a trip.
  4. u are right he was good to amateurs but u don't expect to be walking after 200 metres that is no good for anyone- anyway I hope it is put to bed and steve gets no charges- a quiet word and help is always better than the big stick. u have to protect punters and horses
  5. could stop quickly and cause chaos- no fun behind something that is walking a long way out- accident waiting to happen- I have driven one from the stable- steve a lovely guy but it was not in a fit condition even though it was a non tote- led after 50 metres and walked pretty much from there beaten 800 metres. I have seen a galloping trainer quizzed for the same thing - I had a share and I thought the stipes had a good point- ran according pulled up along way out in a hurdle race. we have to trust in our stipes and vets or what is the point- no regulations or rules- I am not an apologist for stipes have had plenty of run ins with them but we have to someone police the industry- if not what do we do- this is not a biggy - I would prefer no charges are laid but that's what we have the jca for. again often don't agree with them but without them chaos! Beef is a tough judge I mean he regards me as poor driver--- oops he is right
  6. s wallis like lots of talented horseman didnt get to the top of the tree-- hard game if you are not related correctly and sometimes talent is not enough- but doesn't change the fact he was a very good and versatile horseman. I think it is great ex horseman become stipes- we have a few in harness and we are better for it- personally I have had a little bit to do with Scott and he seems very professional and he took all the right steps in this case- we often have calls for stipes to be more proactive and when they are they get a boom. What would have happened if there was a bad incident in relation to this and someone got hurt-then the sh-t hits the fan and the stipes cop it for not doing there job. Hard to win.
  7. I think hayden and warren are in the galloping arm- peter and rogie did well with limited numbers and im guessing rogie scratched an inch and proved he could do it. And he did . Good luck Peter- has had his ups and downs but won a premiership cant take that away from him
  8. it is about horse welfare- I think the stewards did the right thing - they consulted with a vet before making any decision. s wallis the chairman of the stewards was and still is a very good horseman. hats off to him I say.
  9. gee I could have got out of that gap and I have trouble getting into the passing lane from the trail. hahahaaaaaaaaaaaha
  10. the only thing I am able to say is that mike godber is a decent person and he runs the joint so if I wanted to know which I don't I would ring him- he"s never been anything but straight up with me- up to you! prob a good sign that not many calls wouldn't u say.
  11. hope kumeu don't go- I have noticed a bit of an upturn recently in numbers there and president roydon downey is a longtime kumeu boy with a passion for the game and for kumeu . so he will be trying hard not too let it happen.
  12. I can assure u tasman man is no dope- a prolific owner in both codes of some very successful horses- and can go back to when he helped Gordon Thompson of show gate fame. a good and knowledgeable punter and in the past a top sportsman-- has a great sense of humour. Astute self made businessman and a guy who u can chat with for hours and someone who whenever I fluke a win is the first with his hand out. The industry could do with a hundred gary's. One major fault of course comes from the wrong island.
  13. wasn't it gr8 when we had all the info and the public none- iused to get tapes from a 2 day meeting say at gisborne flown up from the first day - the tax is the real killer- the powers don't understand the more they tax the more we evade - we do that by heading offshore to bet-- they worry about leakage- easy to fix- perhaps u should take over as racing minister instead of the dopes we have had. betting into small pools holds no attraction 2 me. keep trying u obviously do the right things and have an edge but with a huge take out the house's edge is too big. especially if u win too much they bar u.
  14. wh not have a figure eight track now that would be fun
  15. I think it is aucklands fault- they can programme what conditions they like to capture the 25 that went to manawatu from northern area. it is all about handicapping and programming and Auckland have enough autonomy to do basically what they like- example maidens who have won less that 1k in their last 5 starts or whatever programme the 3 year olds who have had concession wins out of some race- instead of calling the c1's call them horses who have won only one race etc etc. how bout this one from left field- give the trainers an incentive to line horses up- 75 bucks a starter say--equivalent of their % if their horse runs a third. then the trainers nominate more horses and then the club are more able to line up like with like.
  16. keep posted mate things are about to progress very fast
  17. Duncan. like u I got the tapes when hardly anybody got them- the difference now is the public has such good access to information it is a hard game to beat- betting plunges in nz are hardly ever by the owners or trainers- it is the big punters- don't see many rolls royces in the drivers or trainers carpark- ( only nisram's) form of 8475 doesn't mean anything- the smarties in trotting are very good and there are quite a few of them. and even if they hit the fixed odds the tote inevitably follows-maybe u are missing something- but I know cheating is not a factor- there might be a few who think they are shifty but the reality is that the shifty's are usually broke. I think? the real good judges are very trials reliant and sectionals. u can see the ATC trials on web and same sectionals- they also get all the trials from other meetings that the average punter don't see. also what I think happens is the aussie money comes in late and is always skewed to the favourites so a plunge becomes self fulfilling. My advice to you is that you are obviously a keen punter and understand what is required- forget the trots here and bet in hk- the pools are huge and also if if u go the hkjc website u can watch the races plus the head on- I can honestly say skulduggery in NZ is so small it is not a factor. good luck.
  18. regarding the passing lane regulations this is a jca matter not tan atc matter I was involved in one at Cambridge when I led and hung out rounding the last bend- the trailer hit the passing lane and didn't give access to the horse who followed it and was dq'd. its all in the rules
  19. john perhaps u should ask your racing manager why he treks to new Plymouth with his horse rather than racing it at the park-he of all people should be able to tell you.
  20. that would help we have several 2 dividend races which kill turnover- the club needs to take some responsibility but so do owners and trainers. add just 2 horses and make 8 turnover is significantly better- we have 2 trainers on the board what is their answer plus of course and ex trainer.
  21. I cant understand trainers look at the maiden fields at Auckland this week 7 starters and manawatu get double the size- so go figure. of course not always the case but run 2nd almost same as at manawatu- john I don't think u have yet answered what happened to your system did the club reject it- u have a severe problem at Auckland in that the board seem to not worry about racing but property development - why not both- the ads in the herald are flattering for the new apartments-it remains to be seen if the reality matches the promised- no mention of price either- will I be allowed to buy one given my current situation- or will ibuy one but not be allowed to live there? hahahahha
  22. u cant count me as a driver - insults all the real drivers of course I won a race on the orange agent last week- well sort of- Maurice arrived with no gear and he took my gear - first time my hat has broken 2.40- he told me when he gave it back next time I wear it too drive like him- naturally I said not a good idea mate- I need to be better than that. I think I have 6 and him 2000- no comparison really
  23. zac got fined 500 on my old boy jonny Wilkinson for standing up in the cart- lets keep harness racing boring . fun police at it again - mind u tv don't help.
  24. tough markers-it aint easy and split second decision when u 3 fence- u can be a hero or a mug in that position - what if it goes to line hard on trailers back waiting for a run.
