Westmead Hawk was widely regarded as a modern day legend by those that were privaleged enough to see the big black in action.

Early A1 wins at Hall Green as a pup earmarked the Hawk as a dog with immense potential and so it proved.

It was perceived by many that his future was to be as a stayer this despite winning at the tricky Henlow track in a rapid 28.06.

Westmead Hawk was simply electrifying when stepped up in trip for the Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic over 630m. He went unbeaten through the heat, semi final and final where he smashed the clock in a lung bursting 37.08.

The Derby was next on the agenda as his astute and equally legendary trainer Nick Savva stepped him back down in trip.

Westmead Hawk was to display his incredible track craft and unstoppable finishing kick in every round of the competition before destroying his rivals off the last bend to win comfortably and secure the Group 1 trophy for 2005.

The Hawk took on the very best and beat them in early rounds of the Irish Derby most notably when beating the best in the 1/4 final in 29.66 for the 550yds.

The 2006 English Derby was Hawks target, but not before walking away with every round of the Produce Stakes at Hall Green and winning the final in a rapid 28.24.

An gallant head second to Fear Me in the Scottish Derby Final confirmed that the big black dog was arriving for his second tilt at Wimbledon in top form.

Unbelievably Hawk won every round of the 2006 Derby coming from off the pace every time.

The final was no different and he picked off Amarillo Slim and Mineola Farloe to record an unforgettable double.

Times of 28.53, 28.63, 28.58, 28.62 and 28.44 highlighted what an incredibly consistent and supremely fast greyhound he was.
