  1. To be fair a lot of sports here feed talent to overseas , the amount of talent in football sloshing round ,I know of a few good young ones even early heading offshore to clubs giving it a go. The reality of a small economy and population , it's great in some ways but we just realistically cannot compete with these huge economies nowdays in sport . Look how the ABs battle to retain talent . Sport has to stand on own two feet at the pro level ,taxpayer should support grassroots . The taxpayer could look at supporting trainers/ studs in training youngsters in the workplace through apprentice schemes , racing can do a lot of good in that respect, in fact they do already .It might even be an idea for trainers to push this aspect of their business to govenment and the public .Push what they can do to help the country not what they want a bit more . How many youngsters employed by Marsh , iam sure a few , mention that not dictate what stakes the taxpayer should provide , maybe they get a better reception .
  2. Feel a bit for Pike , is he self made man ? . The other two clearly had a hand up in industry but credit they've made most of it but if a self made man has stood up to be counted and big colleagues have cut him down like that, let's just say it's average . Marsh is no way going to OZ , add it all up jockey partner going well, spelling farm , into training . All mouth and trousers, the classic paper tiger .
  3. School teachers earning every single cent of wage at moment imho , good on him too .
  4. So he's brought a spelling farm in company with a NZ syndication company , but he's going to move to Australia unless stakes are what he wants but he don't want to stand in company with the union rep in the trenches . So his horses move to OZ , assuming thats what all his owners want and fly them back on masse to his farm for spelling ? He might be one person who will have his bluff called early doors .
  5. Theres a few old union leaders not short cash flow , workers until their pay goes up . Bad look undermining the union rep by that stable and rubbing his nose in it early doors though . Not a strong bargaining team . Cannot expect a struggling stable to battle to the wall leaving horses out if a big guy rolls over very quickly and publicly .
  6. Just like the miners strike these guys or maybe not so tough as the miners, yes that's it not so hard that's correct , one out all out , oh a few in , a few out , some more in asking for a handout what can i get to feather my nest type of thing , many many permutations . " " We'll keep the red flag flying here " sing together in solidarity. I think he's realised striking you don't get paid and it hurts real bad , a tough lesson to learn but good he's learnt it young , well done young man .
  7. Thanks Chris , It would be interesting to know , I have read 23 milion a bit but maybe that was for the three proposed so I am happy to be corrected . It's the way it comes across as an entitlement to taxpayer funds by some in racing that gets up my nose ( last night on 3 news for example) and I absolutely love the sport and hope is propers but not at the expense of others in society . Racing needs to realise we all in the worry zone about our futures . I must say you always come across as reasonable and fair minded , I hope there is a fair resolution to all ,the grafting taxpayer , other community kids sports and racing getting a helping hand , but 80 mill that's a bit stiff . I wish you the best in these troubled times , and I must say your son is awesome in his role , he was awesome in NZ and Singapore too.
  8. Taxpayer funded from provincial growth fund is my understanding, 23 million I think , so Ardent Buzz if you pay tax you have shouted them a racetrack, I think the thanks is in the post to you along with the bill with more money they want from you , as well as the money you provide through your punting dollar to the monopoly , and the money they cream from communities via Pokie oh don't forget racing are the only industry who pay tax in this country . Oh and be grateful they let you pay for it too .
  9. Would there be a case of every sport / code getting exactly their cut of TAB profit wagered on their sport/code and no pokie money to pro sport at all if the taxpayer gave a handout, maybe govenment could tie that in for the handout . I know Rugby , Football, Netball and League at community level are hurting bad at moment , cricket luckily got through most of season but rumblings are they are are willing to chip in later in season and forego a bit of time early season in Spring , no doubt that will cost them but if so good on them if they do .
  10. What happens if racing gets the big bailout , then law gets passed and Avondale or the like gets seized and sold for many many million like in the pre covid plan . Then in a two years time the Derby is worth Million bucks again and excesses return while the battlers race for 2 bucks again . Then a family member gets turned down for life saving treatment because there's no money for it . I'd be pretty pissed off , it's no fantasy they will still be after selling up all these tracks .
  11. MP took a stand but imho the article comes across demanding and read badly for a non racing audience who are hurting . This we've paid tax dollars is BS ,tax dollars are not a saving fund to draw on that's held for the payee , it pays for health service , defence , policing , schools , pensions , medication via Pharmac etc .They are already cutting funding for a new lung cancer drug due to costs . So if racing is bailed out why not bail every single tourist operation , restaurant and pub . Most would have been better managed than racing . How many trainers threatening to leave were happy with the 23 mill tax payout for AWT and demanded more AWTs on tax payer dollars , it's want want want and it's a right turn off even for punters and I've spoken to a few . They have had a guts full of the culture of entitlement .
  12. Racing entities also got the wage subsidy , it's all listed .Racing stables, tracks all got it same chance as Fletchers to apply so no difference there , Jockeys iam sure would have got a subsidy also .So same boat as all businesses re subsidy . TAB has continued to trade throughout lockdown online so it that respect is a lot luckier than a lot of others .
  13. Never understand our workers pay paye gambit , so does old Dorris who makes my Mocca latte with marshmallow on top at my local cafe but she might be losing her job if the business that was well run prior to covid goes belly up . Very insular at times sports .
  14. The taxes you mention , how to they differ from every other industry or job . We also pay taxes , some cannot write them off to depreciation of broodmares and the like .What's the assurance it isn't good money after bad that's the main thing going forward .
  15. How they going to announce it " in these difficult times for public, job loses , worry about sickness , stress , the govenment of well being has decided to give gambling 80 million to balance their books and help them to continue to promote gambling " . That's a vote winner to the masses .
  16. Correction not asking , saying the poor old bloody taxpayer owes it .
  17. 23 Mill for AWT was that a down-payment on what's owed ? . An industry , insolvent basket case of run down venues prior to covid asking taxpayers for 80 mill , it's a bad joke .
  18. Couple each way in the Geelong stayers event today , Mountain Breath owes me a little bit but it's a matter of time with her and old Slowpoke getting ready for jumps but no mug effort last time . 16s and 26s mark so roll of dice . Mountain Breath last two races formlines out reasonably solid .
  19. Correct me if iam wrong but my recollection is the last three tips you've put up have all come home , at around the 4 bucks mark. I remember the Sandown winner battling on like mad , yesterday's one but sure there was one in between those two , was it in the last at in Melbourne last week as well? Good luck with Athero , you just cannot stop them no more , you have the power to turbo boost them. Just like a boxer fine tuning a technique to power a punch through .
  20. When the head of a failing organisation earns more than head of armed forces let alone the PM , very very serious questions need asking .
  21. 76 NZ breds ran in OZ yesterday , even buck ew outlay 152 would have returned 135 and change . 1 roughie won, couple of roughies 2nd . Moe race six the two NZ bred runners ran the quinela returned 45 bucks .
  22. You having a go at Arthero tomorrow night CT ? Nice tip today .
  23. My understanding is he had no experience at all in the gambling industry , had he ever thrown a buck in a fruit machine or one arm Bandit maybe , 700k who on earth recruited someone with no experience in the gambling industry to run a gambling industry on 700k . Surely that person is also ex employee too.
  24. I really want to watch the press conference when /if Grant Robertson announces possibly the mentioned 80 mill to gambling , some of those weak journos might fire into life , if that doesn't fire them into asking 1 just 1 searching question I doubt anything will. Like did donations from industry insiders have anything to do with your decision making Sir ? Start there and move onwards .
  25. I see Indy Car scratched today so that deals done. Look like they need a restock up there in top ranks milers and stayers although Beauty Generation back in form , I think it's his last prep I read and Moore gets a mandatory retirement from training ranks too. Wonder what's happened to Pakistan Star , if racing survives here if one of those trainers that's gets the old HK horses going again gets him it would spark an interest . I think it's the drop in class a bit but no doubt Wexford , John Bell and a few other really refresh these old campaigners and ones that don't settle up there , they really get the best out of them . CT must be chasing his coin on Arthero tomorrow in the sprint .
