Having backed orepuki gem the start before today's, the win today was a total surprise, as the start before finished 70 lengths from the winner, not seeing that race at the time, and only the losing margin via results, one thought how it could turn a losing margin like that around and couldn't possibly back it,, but had one watched the race that day the losing margin was due to a slipped saddle, one must take learnings and move on, as a result doesn't tell the true story all the time.
I noticed that one of the most capable jumping riders Aaron Kuru didn't ride at Warrnambool. A search revealed that he last rode in December, then at trials in January., but hasn't ridden since. Is he injured or has he retired?
12 in the steeples and 12 in the hurdles. That will also be the maximun amount of riders as well. There are a few riders over from the UK to increase rider numbers
If they do decide to race at Rotorua on a sodden track, surely it raises the question of why they couldn't race on a heavy 10 at Riccarton last week? Riverton conducted a perfectly successful meeting on a heavy 10 today.
It begins to look like Riccarton is probably the only track where they are quite happy to change tracks merely because the two alternatives are side by side.
As a jump racing fan I think the stakes increase is outstanding. Any whispers about the Grand National Hurdles Stakes?
The club will be rewarded with full fields and a great carnival.
. Looking at Met Service for Rotorua They have had 46 mm today and expect 67 mm by midnight. My pick is it will be too wet. If it is I hope they run on Sunday or Monday on the Rotorua course and don't consider the Cambridge AWT
Yes, was really bucketing down at the Park but can any of you old timers remember the track getting damaged the way it has in recent year or so? How much influence do all the new buildings etc have on storm water movement and drainage at the top of the straight and passing lane?
I dunno about the turnover. Racing both meetings on the same night has encouraged me to get a little bit involved again, punting-wise. Thursday and Friday nights was just a turn-off for me personally, and I'd generally skip them both unless one of the nights was full of Group 1's. We're all different though.
You do have to wonder. Since there are no jumpers in the SI, why not put the money towards fully funding costs for connections willing to bring jumpers down for the meeting, if the purpose is to improve field sizes?
