KJ 12 Report post Posted July 10, 2010 Thanks Secret. Litter now produced six winners and numerous places. Should get better when a little older. Several have shown promise over 500. Waiting for Gentle Lee to come into season and have another litter by a dog we have yet to choose.

Philocon 1 Report post Posted August 31, 2010 Zac went to GAP, he now runs around a farm happy as, but as all GAP pets learn, they lose their manly bits!!! One of the few (maybe only) geldings to make a successful sire. It shows the uphill battle local sires have even when they produce winners. Although I would not have picked him to produce winners at the start of his career. Not a showy group winner and a pedigree that wasn't as flash as some around. Add to that the fact that he raced and won only over sprints 21 wins from 75 starts and 41 times in the money. While some will argue that his winners are mainly winning over sprints like himself, the same can be said for many other sires here including FS ones many that have proven themselves over the 457 and further. On the overall sire rankings, like leading local based sires of recent years, he is competitive with FS sires with similar numbers of starters here and leading many of them. Even then those overseas sires often get better opportunities as to the calibre of bitches they cover. So it's not surprising his stud career came to a premature end given the lack of patronage local sires get. It's a catch22 situation. many breeders don't patronise local based sires as they argue they don't have the results; but to get those results you have to have opportunities; but you can't give them those opportunities because they haven't got results. So it becomes self perpetuating. As I mentioned on the thread re updating the website, there clearly is no problem with the calibre of our broodbitch stock as witnessed by the fact that most of the successful broodies are domiciled here. But we have a wee way to go convincing breeders to give equal consideration to the home based sires yet.
