  1. You'd have to say he was an incredible disappointment at stud. But he was a bit of a 'flash in the pan' racehorse from my memory too. One really impressive win at Ellerslie [i forget the race - the Great Northern Guineas I think, G2] when he burst out of the pack and exploded to the line quite brilliantly - and thereafter often disappointing. Wealth Princess certainly looks like she will prove to be by far his best horse. She looked freakish in the way she picked that field up and dropped them!
  2. Sorry Chris - but on what basis did you think that could possibly be true??? ie: "The odds lengthen AFER a win"? Kind of defies logic don't you think?? Don't be TOO gutted mate - I don't think it will beat Coup Align in the Telegraph anyway.
  3. Coup Align in the Telegraph. Muphasa in the Railway [Wealth Princess WAS hugely impressive but that was only her 3rd[?] win - I think there's a bit of a gap between her and the Big M at this stage!] Mirkola Lass in the City of Auckland Cup. [Did you see her last 75m of the Waikato Cup under 58 kgs??!! Went from about 10th to 4th...]] IMO of course...
  4. He WAS a great trainer - and that is a most interesting fact you have informed us of Bob. I don't think he would have got away with it if he trained anywhere south of Sydney/Auckland though!!! Does anyone know why he would never speak to the Press?
  5. One line springs to mind in light of the statistic you have highlighted: " Success breeds success!" Waikato Stud has had a phenomenal decade by anyone's calculations. One has to admire their stallion selection and breeding choices.
  6. Given your horses interest in the mares I would think 'By George" is a whole lot more apt than 'Boy George!"
  7. Sad news - Manawatu Sires by 12 lengths!!!!
  8. I agree with your sentiments Chris. He has had a pretty impressive few months lately and looks like hitting the big time in the near future. Strange how his sire was SO disappointing considering the chance he was given etc etc.
  9. Appaloosa breeders have no problem breeding to Chestnuts - it is forbidden to breed to GREYS. Heaps of appaloosas are chestnuts with various white markings. As Pepper has said, your foal was a grey because one of its parents was a grey - its Sire. That's the same with every grey - at least one parent is a grey.
  10. About time someone made them pull their heads out of the sand!!! If the 'shufflers' can do it - so can the TB code. I believe that the TB code needs to come clean and just make the change with the appropriate protocols in place; some of the top stallions are effectively using it anyway with 'sperm reinforcement' - books of over 200 mares with fertility in the 80-90%???
  11. Appreciate the correction Richard - I thought they were at the tail-end of last season ie July. When did he actually leave our shores then?
  12. All that aside Theysay - if he doesn't comply with the rules he SHOULDN'T win. Much as I think he's a great colt, it is supposed to be NZ Horse of the Year! as in NZ trained, and who raced here... If they bring him back here soon and keep him here for the rest of the season and win the Derby in March - that would be fine, as he would then comply with the rules. No problem. And he just might pip Katie Lee for HotY.
  13. [PS Brad, $1.10 or $1.40...what did it matter? It mattered to Betfair! THEY got the bet...
  14. Finalists comprise the three or four horses selected by the Recommendations Panel. Nominated horses must have been trained by a person holding a NZ licence for the season under review and must have been stabled in NZ for more than half of the season. If a horse is transferred to an overseas stable those starts for the new trainer not licensed in NZ will not count for the purposes of these awards. End quote. So will Monaco Consul be "stabled in NZ for more than half the season" ? If Mike Moroney is in fact still a registered NZ trainer, then that's clearly what has to happen for his wins in Oz to be counted. He hasn't been here at all, so far this season - as far as I am aware.
  15. Yeah - well said!! I suspect you may have also got similar money from his 'Little' mate!!!
  16. Without getting too technical about it, the colour options depend on the colours of the extended parents too. Some simple rules of thumb: To get a grey - one parent MUST be grey. [This is not saying you WILL get one - just that it is not possible to get a grey without at least one parent being grey.] Further to that, if a horse carries the grey gene - it WILL be grey. Grey is NOT a recessive gene. Chestnut is recessive. [that means a horse can carry the gene but not actually BE chestnut.] That is why two horses [neither of which is chestnut] can sometimes produce a chestnut. You will usually find in these cases that a gran-parent was chestnut. Two chestnuts always produce a chestnut. Fascinating stuff aye!
  17. I won't catch too many with these two - but they stand out for my money: My Scotsgrey Katie Lee Enjoyed the comp - thanks!
  18. Seeing as my knowledge of greyhounds extends only to knowing which end the muzzle goes on, I'll have to follow the lead of the tens of NZer's out there that bet on this and go with.. Tricky Shelley!
  19. Gomeo Romeo [scr Hip Hop Anvil] Karloo Mick [scr Monkey King] I'll just wait on the weather for the other race...
