  1. For contact details please see listing number on Trademe 745034865.
  2. I have a 3 rising 4 year old Bay 16.2hh gelding I am considering selling. Bred to stay & due to past knowledge of family has been given time to grow. His dam "Senorita Glamis"was a full sister to a top 10 placed melbourne cup runner & Australian group placegetter "Catchmeifyoucan". 3/4 sister to Group 1 & 2 Australian winner "Free at Last". SIre was the useful "Don Tristram" son of Sir Tristram. Same cross of this mares dam with Don Tristram produced a dual winner in "Catchherifyoucan" who never saw best of due to ongoing injury issue. Sure to be a champion as he is a one & only...Last foal out of both the mare & last produce by the stallion! Broken in mid 2yr old then turned out to strengthen up for over a year. Returned to reputable equine training facility end of April 2014 in work & going nicely. Fairly reasonable conformation- does dish a little but straight in legs. Never had xrayed or scoped as was keeping for myself but circumstances change. Don't think I am keen on ROP as been bitten before, but may look at options. No idea on value...
  3. Congratulations to the owners & trainer. Tried to locate the Festival sale thread in which it was suggested that the quality of catalogue was supposidly rubbish not worthy of black type especially the fillies & said that if this filly didn't make it as a racehorse I would eat my hat, great news I'm spending my TAB winnings instead! Again congrats to trainer on a very astute purchase. All involved with her prior got just as much of a thrill yelling her home today.
  4. I am looking at offering grazing for 2 horses to share paddock together. Total 15acres rotation grazed with cattle. Best suited to broodmares although possibly spellers or halterbroken/handled youngsters may be considered by arrangement-Keep in mind though all paddocks 7wire post & batten with top electric. Deer fence/barbary hedge boundaries. Grazing offered not full agistment- owner to still be responsible to oversee their horses on regular basis but I can assist to feed out owner supplied hay & supplimentary feed daily over winter (Horses grazed at owners risk). $40 per week per horse this covers grazing only. Great Handling yards (8ft) onsite, excellent side loading facilties for horsetransporters. Te Kowhai area so handy to main highways. Might suit someone looking to purchase stock at this weeks broodmare/weanling mixed bloodstock sale. ontheland76@gmail.com
  5. Might pay to try googling "paperspast" then put in the name"Robert James Hickey" & "steeplechase". Family member that has does racing research on steeplechasing around this time suggests might be a good place to start if you have no other leads-they will have a little look at their paper research and see if they can find anything relevant. They know of a James Hickey but would need to just check birthdates etc to see if relevant to your relative.
  6. Sorry I was going to add too. I noticed quite a few that were passed in ring a few thousand from their reserve , subsequently did sell for their reserve prices, so everyone loves a bargain & will try to get one if they can.
  7. Can see the balance you are trying to bring to discussion Helmut but I would put to you my filly was pretty tidy conformation wise, not a hell of a lot you could point a stick at, only the 3 dams on page, aussie black type on page & mare already left a stakes perfomer plus a couple of other winners. I think the market was just what it was on the days & fillies generally are a waste of time putting them through festival-I know if my circumstances had been different she would be still in paddock. I agree though with some pedigree pages being very weak, when you need 5 dams on a page & there isn't any black type for at least 3 of those then simply how can you expect someone to want to take a chance & buy it, I think those are the sorts that should be going through the may mixed bloodstock sales. I haven't actually gone through all catalogues to see how many fillies actually sold. Also I think that it wasn't just some of the festival horses hit hard this year, I think a few breeders that invested substantially in stud fees & rearing & presenting their horses wouldn't have shown a great return either at select sale. Against that a buyers market, I am sure there will be some happy owners & also pinhookers come ready to run sales time, good luck to everyone with their purchases.
  8. I don't know how you go about encouraging ownership in fillies to become our future broodmares. This may seem a very inexperienced viewpoint on situation as I have only had 10 years breeding pretty much for our enjoyment through to racing them under lease and retaining ownership so might be completely off base but to me it seems that there are a lot of trainers that prefer not to deal with fillies in their stables (both trainers I worked for years ago disliked them and had 98 % colts & any fillies were given pretty much a hard time although most good racemares seem to need that extra bit of aggression to be competitive. And also the biggy is I think pretty much everyone involved in the ground level of supply is hopeful of that golden lottery ticket to enable them to keep doing what they do for a living or love doing, and colts & geldings with our asian markets are the most likely to supply this.I have yet to speak to anyone that has turned down an open chequebook for a promising young horse, generally from my observations it is a business even with & probably more so with a smaller breeder & money talks at end of day. Also I noted a comment on one of the NZB sales videos (I think it was) that if your a trainer & you go that little extra to buy a colt from one of the larger studs in the ring then chances are you are going to get a paddock of nicely bred fillies to choose from to lease. So I don't think your smaller breeder is ever going to be able to afford that opportunity. Personally I dont think there has ever been a better time to race a filly with the incentives on offer, do I agree with them all no not really but good news if you have a broodmare that only knows how to drop a filly! LOL Of course these are just my perceptions and perhaps completely off base to what others think & discussion is always good, I am not bitter or angry so please dont read into my posts that I am. I do think perhaps though it might be fun in a couple of years to put the 5-10K that would have been spent of a stud fee on the nose to win in a race instead, might be more fruitful
  9. Well I will comment from a small breeder that had a couple of horses go through via agent that did a lovely job of preparing them. One colt went through for what was a reasonably price for a later foal & staying type although yes you could say the amount was substantially lower than stud fee unfortunately mare hasnt left a winner yet so I understand purchasers reluctance (yes xrays available helped I think). The other was a extremely nice filly I thought & had been given a lot of good feedback on, so much so she was originally entered in select both on type & pedigree, NZB agent at that time thought she would be very top end festival when she was shuffled back due to premier being shortened back a day. I think it is fair to say both myself & agents were disappointed in the $5500 she made in ring. However she was sent for sale due to my change in circumstances (otherwise fair to say she would have at least had a 10K reserve & might not have even been at sale)! I am sure both of the buyers will have luck with these two individuals in the future & I think the filly buyer will never have any regrets! I am getting out of breeding for a while due to other factors in life at present however there is still no joy greater than breeding for yourself to race. Will also comment that I do think Thewayyouare & Swiss ace really did shine as first season stallions, didn't seem to matter which farm presented them, lovely naturally muscled horses.
  10. I did wonder what some of the heart rates are like for some of the owners/connections of their horses coming down the home straight
  11. Update of Trademe listing number for advert of 3yr old 552803022.
  12. Currently have two geldings that I am looking for someone to race: one very nice 2yr old by Don Tristram x Senorita Glamis (full sister to Catchmeifyoucan that ran 2nd in Saab & 8th in Melbourne cup & 3/4 relation to Aussie Group winner & placegetter Free at Last). This boy is bred to stay/classic races. Also a 3yr old by Royal Gem x Glamis, making this fella a 1/2 to 5 other winners from what could be classed as less commercial stallions so the mare has done the job very well so far. He does face out below the fetlock on near side & dish but don't think its going to slow him down. They are currently advertised on Trademe ad numbers 534522248 & 534521579. Will update photos when if/they return from breakers Have gone to be broken in this last week-located in Hamilton. Price $7500 no gst each would consider keeping a small share in each if I could afford to: ontheland76@yahoo.co.nz
  13. No Excuse Needed is one of my favourite stallions & would have been my top pick if I was breeding this season. I hope they keep his stud fee at that level next season :-) Another to add to the list with value & consistancy would be Don Eduardo. On the note of first season foals: I am not breeding this season but looking at a few studs websites and their photo galleries Haunui & those that used Showcasing must be pretty happy with their foals, they look very nice.
  14. Thought it was a fantastic win & it was nice to see all horses being competitive at the end and finish looking fit & well, even Sir Heelan that didn't jump the last finished looking happy, got to be good for the sport. Congratulations to all especially Mrs Browne on a good win.
