My current "strategy" has been working well for a couple of years now, as in being modestly ahead of the bastards & satisfying the overwhelming addiction to having an interest now & then. Once I select a race the bet is always, 5 win over $20 place on my single selection, and a $3 boxed quinella of 4 horses around that selection - cost $43 per race. Just avoid races that obviously will not give you a result - e.g a small field with a favourite you can't see being beaten, etc. You can scale this up or down to suit your budget/comfort level - 1 over4 and a $1 boxed quinella costs $11. The quinella will often save you if your selection gets rolled, and a decent place divvie can often get most of your money back if you place. Selections of suitable races are easy, I watch the previous run/trial replay of every horse accepted in any race, eliminate the ones considered to have no chance and see how many are left. If I have only 4,5 or 6 horses that I like, I will have a bet. If there are 7 or more still considered chances, move on - there is another race just minutes away. I am looking for a win/place horse paying over 5$ to ensure the each way gets value. At times it could be paying up to $30, don't flinch and you will be amazed at times how lucky you can get. The flip side is you will kick yourself if you leave it/chicken out and it rolls in! I then box that horse with 3 of the other favoured horses, and love it if I feel I can leave out the favourite - the quinella price is much better without the favourite. Not uncommon to get a quinella that pays between $30 and $120 using this system. This system is also good for us compulsive "tragics" that have a mates horse, or one named similar to a past distant relation, or one tipped by Syd the drunk local that we need to have something on. Amazing how often it runs down the track but you get a bumper quinella by accident. If you get a couple of winners you will be surprised how quickly your balance goes the right way. This system has kept my punting urge satisfied in a modestly profitably way - Good luck p.s good thread topic!

Hi Say No More, Could you please clarify in little words for a dummy like me, how the winners of this comp will be decided at the end of today? We each start with points from the previous 4 weeks, but this week only 15 entrants. So do we get 1-15 points depending on our "collect" totals and add that to previous tally, or is today's punting just a shootout of the top 15 qualifiers with the best 3 results today finishing 1st, 2nd & 3rd? Looks like some very juicy early divvies available for Randwick, if you take the punt that the track will be heavy, inside rail off and a number of scratchings will reduce the field sizes. The forecast for late Friday, early Saturday looks bleak. It won't take much money to multi up a couple of $3 to $6 place divvies for a nice weekend. I'll leave the easy task of actually selecting them to you. Just a thought.
