A well presented show , it's a pity Mick has this condescending style. At times I feel like I am sitting in on a presentation to 6 year old's on the theory of relativity or quantum mechanics.

I continue to have concerns about trotting north of Rangiora. As a longtime fan dating back to the late 60's I find I just get excited about small fields and the difficulty in making a few dollars. The meeting last night was a classic , I looked at the races and thought how the hell can you make money out of this lot , so I took a particular interest in the Boxseat analysis of 7 of the 10 races by Thompson m Guerin and O'Connor. Awarding points for the number of 1st's , 2nd's and 3rd's the first surprise was the winner ( Greg O'Connor ) , next was the fact that of the 7 races where each selector made four picks ONLY G.O'Connor had more than 1 first pick win. They all had the $1.80 shot Invisible. Thompson and Guerin had the destinction of picking 4 horses in a race without the winner. I didn't have a single bet and watched the Cup without feeling anymore exited than a maiden race at Rotorua.

Well you wouldn't think it was that difficult would you........... Present race details , dividends , presenter selections , race runs , result 1,2,3,4 ,dividends, comments BUT NOOOOoooo Presenter selections missing one or both , race results incomplete but cross to next race , sometimes result is confirmed but regularly not. One of the most popular bets is the quaddie but 3 months or more and we still have to look the result up ......... primative. Finally, where do they find all these experts are their results monitored with KPI's , it's amazing how they front up as large as life every race every meeting with results no more successful that a 5 year old and a dart board. Well done !! I have to admit it came up earlier than I expected and wow 5 at the same meeting. I seem to recall one of the exceptional drivers of yesteryear circa 1972 doing the same but I cant recall his name although it wasn't Maurice Holmes. Shame on TRACKSIDE for cutting across to BALINA for a $17k race whilst you came back to scale.

The AA is offering a dozen cans for every time Leith tips one of his jockeys winners ( Warren Kennedy ) and the TAB offers the same to Leith. Most of the presenters represent a jockey or two but fail to pick winners.

I'm sensitized to the whole false start decision............. ever since the National Mile at Alex Park circa 1973. I had a tip for a horse called ROBALAN who was paying about 8's from memory. HARD TO HAVE A PUNT ON THEM , NOT KNOWING WHAT WEIGHT PENALTIES WILL APPLY. CLEARLY WHEN NO PENALTY LIKE ON SATURDAY ITS ALL GO ALTHOUGH ONE OF THOSE DID WIN BY DEFAULT AFTER CONNECTIONS HAD OFFERED REASONS FOR NOT WINNING B4 RACE.

I FIND THE WHOLE THING AMATEURISH , RACE TO RACE SELECTIONS MISSING , NO QUADDIE DIVI'S ( EVEN VERBALLY INDICATED ) , LEAVING PLACE DIVI'S UNCONFIRMED AND MOVING TO THE NEXT DOG RACE FROM GAYNDA. WHAT ABOUT ALL THE BETTING VARIATIONS ? CAN'T HELP THINKING THAT SEPERATING THE POOLS SIMPLY STOPS YOU LOOKING FOR THE REAL MOVEMENTS. ONE POOL MUCH SIMPLER TO ANALYSE EVEN IF THE DIVI IS 20 CENTS LESS.

I find that apart from the enoying lack of Quaddie results which the announcers could give us so we dont have to go to results , the coverage is full of incompetance like the selectors picks go in different order and freqently some are missing. Crossing over for insignificant races when horses are coming back to scale. JUST A GLORIFIED BETTING SHOP>

It's time to reflect on where the fun of the punt has gone. Years ago we had an independent Radio Pacific with all their employee's basically out to OUTDO the enemy the TAB. Commentators and industry experts would help us pit ourselves against the enemy the TAB. NOW we have ENTAIN and every single opinion coming from an employee of theirs. ................ all of them either direct OR Indirect employyees'. SO go figure how much GOOD OIL are you likely to get ?? ASk yoursxelf why would these people give you anything that would undermine their PROVIDER. I recon we have ended up with the commentators and presenters we now have as they have for several years in most cases proved they are HOPELESS at picking winners. SO just look at these people and their selections and remember the above bnext time you tune in.

THIS STABLE IS VERY GOOD AT THROWING OUT THE WRONG BONE. OR POOR RUNS BY THE WELL RESPECTED. I went to a midweek meeting a fews years ago to back a horse and parked my car on that dias just past the finish post. Wound car window down and ate a pie whislt reading the Best Bets , car next door was a Merc with a well dressed fella also lunching. I yelled out " fancy anything today" he said " I have just come to watch my horse in the 3rd " well I said your here does that mean its a good thing after seeing that it was 3rd favorite and trained by the suspects. Well he said it should win and its getting plenty of mine. Later when the race was run and his horse literally pissed in and paid about $4's I thanked him and went for a walk. I happened to run into the son of a mate who I asked how was he going , eventually telling me he had come to the track just to back a horse in the 3rd ( he was a local so had just come during his lunch break ) He saw an interview with the other trainer in the partnership , the short fella that calls everybody MISTER and speaks like butter wouldn't melt in his mouth who said enough to PUT HIM OFF. END OF STORY but the unusuall still happensd. I got caught out by this one at the bottom of the book with no rider declared and 2 others well fancied , one ridden by O.P.Bosson. The last one carried my Quaddie ticket.
