Not that we have many in today’s racing, but they can be really frustrating when they occur. Just need them to adopt fully the protest payout like Oz does. Even through it is bad news when a dead heat happens, half the divvie is still better than a nose away from the win. I don't think it should be paid in full. I've always disagreed with the payout around the dead heat or third too. A place bet is a place bet is a place bet. All "placed" horses should have their divvies shared, i.e; the "place" pot is split 4 ways when there is a dead heat for third, as there are thus 4 placed horses.
