  1. did anyone see the finish of this race on trackside. And what was driver trying to do with his whip.............looked abit dodgy

if i can get onto the HRNZ website (been down all day)

but great effort for a trotter to go 1:57.44 thus some black type

  2. change over and all tiger

there cup day hopes are now in the hands of harness racing new zealand officails ... under the rulings of late scratching all tiger can be stood down for a set period at the descrestion of the rules and stipes amd stweards along with the vet ..

changeover can also fall under this ruling ,,, with a vet cert required by the nzmet vet ..to get a clearance to race agin ....

if used to there advantage this will put pay too either horse starting cup week ...

i do stand to be corrected on this ruling

    cheers

after seeing the graze on changeover on the news tonite .. i feel it was an excuse to make change over a non starter ..

    ....

it will be of interest how many photos from trials workouts and races and stabling complexs are surfaced to the news media or on u-tube in the next few weeks ,,,..

far worse has been seen ...than that of change over ..

Going by the Stipes report from Friday nights events , the connections of Changeover require a vet certifate before resuming racing. I would expect that Changeover is or will be nominated for the Ashburton Flying Stakes next weekend and race. I gather this would be a vet's certificate signed by Murffitt NOT !

As a side note to this I see that Peraki King in race 1 returned to the stabling area with an injury to it's off fore leg and also requires a vet certificate before resuming racing. This horse ran third in a time of 2:25.0 for the 1950m trip. I wonder whether this horse sustained the injury before, during or after the race

  3. I noticed that last Friday nights results at the Met and Aucland was dominated by this sire in either siring the winner or the winners dam (trot races excluded).

Just wondering if Falcon Seelster is going to be another "Meadow Skipper" sire of Sires ?

    Whats your thoughts ?

  4. When a horse does really well (or really bad) who is most responsible for the horse's success (or failure): the horse, owner, trainer, driver, groom, breeder, vet, blacksmith, feed salesman, horse salesman ?

the trainer, he should have the knowledge to make the horse feel comfortable and in the right frame of mind to race (its the horses fault if it does not qualify to race though)

  5. METHVEN ROUND UP ..

A M BUTT HAD THE GLOVES OFF TODAY .

STARTING PUNTERS OFF ON A GOOD NOTE

Quality Invasion showed some class when winning the first of the day . in what was a poor to average field .

Life And Soul won the second again in the hands of a.m. butt.

there was a good amount of money on this horse and was justified..

a.m butt was driver change from dexter dunn ..

Deadly Affair ran second for sam smolenski , whom seems to have gain some confidiance of late .

    Matai Hunter and Miss Moet

are knocking at the door for a win at short notice .. the others didnt appeal .

    race 03

    was a tame affair realy

Mevagissey Mickey The Fed Express Relentless Storm were the placings .. the rest battled ..

    race 04

Western River won as it liked realy in the fourth of the day .

the margin not saying this , this horse looked the winner on paper and was a great price considoring.

Donegal Under Fire was game in defeat, with Wrong Way Lannigan having a fairly tough run game in third ..

fourth went to Not Home Enough which made some ground inthe straight , but realy should have finished closer .

Can't Miss Me was never put into the race ,

    race 05

Prince Harry was too good for Oscar who was a game battler in defeat followed by Neville Vaughan .

Vatuvei may bounce back on the grit .

    race06

Turbo Tara was too strrong for Mullingar Mac who had he driven better in himself may have won.

    race 07

tennis ball had it won until ducking on to the inside track and trying to slalom the markers ( need too watch video to see what dexter was doing a spilt second b4 ??)

Corka Dream won this event from an unlucky Harley Earl who was put off by tennis ball .Rider On The Storm went well as did Special Ops.

    Zenad & Georgetown

did thier cup day chances no harm .

    race 08

Soky's Okay just got there from what looked like the winner all the way down the straight in Barnetts Dream .

the only other runner of interest was Our Southern Man who did wel after early break

    race 09

Cullen's Creek and a.m butt won easily enough ,

from Bluegum Motel Shines who was held in the trail at a time when needed to be out winding up .

third went to Shesachristian who had a rather tough run and did a great job of holding Bluegum Motel Shines up the straight .f

av J D Fortune missed start and just ran around .

    race 10

With Intent came with that faimilar style of dd nyhan to just hold out a nice type in In Like Magic for jill smolenski .

the only other runner worth interest was Miss Warbucks who made up a ton of ground to finish seventh .

the only other thing out of this race was the lovely driving styles of Darby Doll K G Coutts and Cathy Combo L D McCormick..

i have now learnt that when driving in a race near the finish it is a good idea to look wider out to see whos going to win while still throwing the reins and everything else you can at your horse even if the horse is galloping a great style adopted by L D McCormick.. with K G Coutts i am unsure what the plan was there , i would say same could be said by the driver K G Coutts .

    race 11

once again a.m butt on last start grass track winner So Free got punters out of the last reasonably priced .

was an easy winner after an easy trip and just kept wacking away from Texas Typ and Absolutlea the best of the rest .

Hezanoperator went well ..but you would be game to have .

With just over a lap in the Fillies and Mares Trot, R T May was having a good ole chuckle in regards to the driving styles of McCormick and Coutts as were going like the clappers at the front of the field, only to be outdriven by a couple of other ole timers in Dennis Nyhan and Jill Smolenski.

  6. the club may be forced to race at Reefton, Kumara or Omoto as the race-course lies on a Maori reserve and the rent has been increased from $15000 to $50000 a year. Talks are ongoing as I believe.

    Any further developments known?

as Greymouth has lights and has been used as a night meeting often in the past, other venues would have to make up the Thursday/Friday night harness racing
