crustyngrizzly 1,702 Report post Posted May 3, 2015 One of the 20th centuries greatest ballerinas,MAYA PLISETSKAYA has died in Munich aged 89.. She endured great hardship in her early life in communist Russia and still made it. Her father was killed in one of Stalins purges and her mum along with her brother were forced into a labor camp until they were exiled to Kazakhstan. She was taken in by her uncle and auntie so that she would not be sent to an orphanage reserved for enemies of the people. In 1949 she performed at Stalins 70th birthday and the guests included Mao Zedong. It wasn't until 1989 that she was told who had killed herfather and exiled her mother and brother. Despite all this she performed until her late 60s and was considered to be the embodiement of the Bolshoi ballet.a theatre that she considered to be thae best in the world because of the type of floor.
