you are right Chcknsmack ,its simply easier to treat all countries the same.It would be better to have an extra column "cluttering up the screen"for NZ .not a difficult assignment as we are not another State of Aus. ! -

I am very saddened to hear of Jamie's plight. Top bloke. I spent a memorable night with him at Hutt Park when he came north as a young journalist just starting out many years ago. I was showing him around the place and introducing him to fellow journos in the press box at the top of the stand. It was a good place to get out of the wind and rain that always seemed to assail the place as soon as they had a harness meeting there. Good memories all round and Jamie made it especially so. Go well my old friend. -

You beat me to it...so why could this not have been started last spring, and the word experts scares me they all seem to be the ones causing all the issues with the new tracks. This is typical of NZTR shooting themselves in the foot this work could of been completed by now, or close to instead we are now 14 months at least without a much needed and good venue. -
roughbred Racing No images? Click here Return to Racing in Hawke's Bay for Spring 2026 Sent on behalf of Hawke’s Bay Racing and New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing This evening, trainers and members were updated on the return to racing strategy for Hastings, following the temporary closure of the track last September after a horse slipped on the second day of the Hawke’s Bay Spring Carnival. Pending approval by the NZTR Board, we can confirm that work will progress on a partial re-cambering of the bends leaving the home straight (1600m & 1400m) of the Hastings racetrack. Notwithstanding any unforeseen circumstances, this significant, expert-led investment will allow for a safe and confident return to racing in Hawke’s Bay for spring 2026. This work is essential to ensuring a sustainable future for racing in the region. In parallel, further planning is underway to determine the long-term vision for racing in the wider Hawke’s Bay area. NZTR and Hawke’s Bay Racing expect to share more detailed updates with members and the public in July. We would like to thank our East Coast racing clubs who continue to work together to shape a strong and sustainable future for the industry and the community. We look forward to racing returning to the Hawke’s Bay Region. Richard Riddell Hawke's Bay Racing Club Matt Ballesty NZTR Chief Executive

I can’t seem to find any NZTR announcements about this on their page…..maybe they have found a way to block me. ITs a great feel good story, i would have thought NZTR would have issued a press release about it.

Well it has been a long time since they had raceing( Hawkes Bay) Wairoa is one of the dates, for some strange reason Taranaki has two days at Xmas/New Years eve, struggling recently to run one. 2 more days in the South plus Timaru has a extra which I suspect is one that Riccarton had, early spring.

Common sense may be prevailing. As you say NM, Perhaps Foxton and maybe Rangiora next.
