The decision by the Sunday Star-Times newspaper to change to a “compact” format for yesterday’s issue is another sign that the demise of newspapers is near.

There was no racing coverage in yesterday’s Sunday Star-Times other than the fields which is a worrying sign.

Surely racing news is instrumental in what makes punters want to have a bet.

The lack of racing news coverage is now prevalent in most newspapers in New Zealand and for that matter follows the trend of what has happened globally.

Punters will now have to turn to online sources, such as RaceCafe, to find their news and information about the racing industry.

We are going through a major re-structure with more news content being high on the priority list.

That doesn’t mean to say that traditional strengths of this site, such as the forums, will have less importance because they won’t.
