The Patrick Payne-trained Widgee Turf, who was bought for $A4500 as a weanling, took his career earnings past $A1.1 million mark after his length and a quarter victory over Kazio in the VOBIS Gold Mile (1600m) at Caulfield yesterday.
“To have now won 10 races in town and tick over a million dollars today, that blows me away,” said co-owner Gordon McIntosh.
“It doesn’t happen very often with a four thousand dollar horse.” Patrick Payne added: “Maybe we need to go up in distance and not down.”
“He does work very well in blinkers. It would be the time to do it in the Stradbroke with blinkers on, but we’ll see.”
