Vencedora has been eliminated from Saturday’s greys only race at New Plymouth after failing to meet the conditions of the race.
In other words this grey, trained by John Wheeler, is not grey enough.
The NZTR says: “After consulting the guidelines of the International Stud Book Committee, the NZ Equine Research Foundation’s publication on Horse Genetics and NZTR Chief Veterinarian Dr Andrew Grierson, and then discussing the matter with trainer John Wheeler, NZTR has determined that, despite the horse’s physical appearance, Vencedora does not meet the conditions of Taranaki Racing’s Powerworx Greys Open 1400 and is therefore ineligible.”
The field is down to eight with Stratocaster the favourite.
Our King Sway is second favourite.
He was narrowly beaten on a heavy 10 in last year’s race. but trainer Glenn Old feels the horse will have conditions in his favour this year. The track was rated a dead 5 this afternoon.
“I really want to win this race with him,” said Old. “He’ll be a bigger chance of doing it this year.”
The 8-year-old will be ridden by Darren Danis, who has won on the horse only to be demoted for causing interference.
Other leading chances are Bring To The Block and a resuming Monrecour.
