TRAINER IN COMA AFTER HORSE KICK

Veteran Victorian trainer Bruce Purcell has been airlifted to hospital and is in a serious condition after reportedly being kicked in the head by a horse.

The incident occurred when 76-year-old Purcell was unloading the horse from a float at roughly 4am on Friday. Cranbourne Turf Club CEO Neil Bainbridge confirmed the incident had taken place in the float car park but said details of the situation were still coming to light and that Victoria Police and WorkSafe Victoria were investigating.

“We’re still trying to get more details on exactly what happened, and of course all our thoughts at this time are with the trainer and his family,” Bainbridge said.
