Australian Bloodstock co-director Jamie Lovett has released a positive bulletin on Torcedor as he prepares to begin his path towards the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m).
Now trained by Andreas Wohler, Torcedor missed last year’s race after experiencing an untimely high temperature. Consequently, the son of Fastnet Rock was unable to begin his mandatory two-week quarantine period in Germany in preparation for the trip.
“He’s currently in work and on target to come out for this year’s Melbourne Cup. He’ll probably have a couple of runs, maybe second-up in the Prix Kergorlay, before traveling to Australia,” Lovett said.
Torcedor was owned by New Zealand-based Te Akau Racing and trained by Jessica Harrington when he finished third in last year’s Group 1 Ascot Gold Cup on June 21 and then second in the Group 1 Goodwood Cup (3200m) on July 31.
