Pukekohe trainer Nigel Tiley, who is campaigning a team in Queensland this winter, saddled debutante Carrera To The Max to a first-up success in a 1000m maiden race at the Sunshine Coast yesterday.
The victory provided New Zealand jockey Leith Innes with a race-to-race double after his earlier victory aboard the Tony Pike-trained Intrigue.
“She got herself a little fired up today, which is not like her, but she will learn a lot from the experience,” Tiley said.
“She has always shown me plenty, but she has just been a little bit slow to mature. She is a big girl, so today’s hit-out will do her the world of good. I wasn’t sure how she would handle the ground, because I have never really galloped her on a wet track at home.”
The Snitzel filly was purchased by Phil Cataldo Bloodstock for NZ$130,000 at New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale from the Highview draft.
