Matamata trainer Stephanie Tierney, pictured below, was back in the winners’ circle in the second of only two races run at today’s Waipa Racing Club meeting at Te Awamutu.
Tierney tasted success with the ultra-consistent, Goboniego, who was ridden to victory by Samantha Collett.
“I knew it was going to be a tough race but she produced a very gusty effort,” Tierney said. “I’m proud of her.”
Goboniego is raced by Doug and Angela Taylor.
“All going well we will look for a 1400 metre event next start but she will find it tough on the firm tracks so ideally be looking towards the autumn,” Tierney said.
“I have four horses in work currently but am also running a team of 30 with my partner at Moemoea Park which are mostly breakers and pre trainers,” she said
