Flemington track manager Liam O’Keeffe says the Melbourne Cup will probably be run on a slow track.
“We’re hoping for a fine day on raceday and the track gets back to a soft (5) by raceday.”
O’Keeffe said the wet weather and the big fields on Derby Day caused some wear to the inside section, meaning the rail will be out three metres for the Melbourne Cup meeting.
“They started to open it up with the rain and the field sizes but there wasn’t much we could do about that,” O’Keeffe said.
“We’ll move the rail out three metres, which is the furthest we can have it for Cup Day.”
