Colin Cromarty didn’t need a second invitation when good mate Alex Kelly asked him to train Skarloey, an emphatic winner on debut at Otaki Thursday.
Nine years ago the horse’s mother Cachette won with Cromarty at the helm. It was the Wanganui trainer’s last win.
“Alex and I go a long way back. He’s stood some good stallions.”
Cromarty is also grateful to Johnathan Parkes, who educated the horse at Waverley, where Cromarty is caretaker.
“There was a time when Johnathan couldn’t get a ride. Now no one can get him on their horses.”.
Cromarty is unsure where he will take Skarloey next.
“No rush. I’ll take my time before I take the next step.”
