Veteran trainer Bruce Purcell remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital after a freak accident at trackwork on Friday morning.
Purcell was airlifted to the Alfred Hospital after the incident at the Cranbourne training complex involving one of his horses. It is believed the 76-year-old suffered a serious head injury when kicked by a horse when unloading it from a float.
“We’re still trying to get more details on exactly what happened this morning, and of course all our thoughts at this time are with the trainer and his family,” Cranbourne Turf Club CEO Neil Bainbridge said.
Australian Trainers’ Association CEO Andrew Nicholl also said his thoughts were with Purcell and his family and that the ATA would offer them any assistance that was required.
