Tony Pike, who will saddle the hat-trick seeking The Bostonian and Endless Drama in tomorrow’s Group 1 $A1.5million Stradbroke Handicap (1400m), has issued a damning criticism of the New Zealand racing industry and suggested he could contemplate a move to Australia in the not-too-distant future.
“It definitely has gone through my mind (moving),” Pike said.
“We’ve got a great set-up at Cambridge, which we own ourselves, and the kids are obviously in good schools. There are a lot of ties back at home, but probably the time is coming that I’m going to have to consider it (moving to Australia) in the next 12 months to two years.
There’s money here (Australia) and a lot of it, but you’ve still got to be able to perform and get the job and do it well to make that money.
There’s some light at the end of the tunnel, but if that doesn’t happen in the short term I don’t think I’ll be the only one who’ll be looking to take advantage of what’s on offer here in Australia.”
