Oz-some win in Stewards

” I don’t know what I’ve done but it suited.”

Canterbury trainer Neil Ridley was talking after winning the Stewards. with the remarkable Prince Oz. It was the horse’s sixth win for Ridley, who received the horse from good friend, Wanganui farmer Mark Connors, to prepare, with just one win to his name.

“Mark said he had a good horse for me to train. He thought a lot of it but it wasn’t doing much good in the North Island

, and it would do better in the South Island.”

With 200m to go,  Prince Oz swept past  second favourite Prom Queen, who in turn was knocked out of the placings by Sensei and Pegasus winner Casaquinman.

Ferrando faded badly after coming off second best in  a sped duel with Prom  Queen.

Winning jockey Terry Moseley said Prince Oz was getting better as it got older., ”Like me.’

He described Prince Oz as “a class act.”
