Grant Nicholson has a few options but no obvious target for today’s Egmont Cup winner, Nymph Monte, pictured, in the coming weeks.
“There’s the Feilding Cup …. we’ll see.”
Using her impressive turn of foot, Nymph Monte responded favourably to a strong ride from group-winning
jockey, Shariq Rusof, to run down favourite Ladies First, who strayed toward the rails under
pressure in the final 200m after taking the lead shortly after straightening for home.
Strolling Vagabond emerged from the pack for third, her first visit to Hawera after 46 starts.
Leah Hemi scored her first win since recovering from injury on Sugar Rush, trained by one of her most
ardent supporters Tina Egan. “This year’s been a write-off,” said Hemi.
Sugar Rush was only paying $10 on opening but her price blew out late.
Second in the R82 sprint was second favourite King Cougar, who tried in vain to bomb the winner.
