OLIVER SUSPENDED OVER WHIP CHARGE

Damien Oliver’s win on stayer Chouxting The Mob at Flemington on Saturday has come at a cost, with the champion jockey suspended for breaching the whip rules.

Oliver was one of two riders suspended for whip breaches in yesterday’s Great Ocean Road Handicap (2520m).

Stewards issued an eight-meeting suspension to Oliver, who used the whip ten times before the 100 metres, which is five more than permitted under the rules. He will begin the ban after Wednesday’s meeting at Sandown and will miss next Saturday’s city meeting at Caulfield.
