Queensland-based jockey Damian Browne has announced his retirement from the saddle after a string of health issues.
“Thank you, racing. I have had my last ride,” he posted on Twitter yesterday.
“My heart and soul wants to get back on the horse, but my body knows the ride is over. Thank you to everyone who supported me, I can’t thank you enough.”
Browne moved to Queensland in 2003 after a successful career in New Zealand and retires with more than 1200 wins to his credit, including 15 Group 1 races.
Browne is best known for his association with brilliant sprinter Buffering (Mossman), who won seven Group 1 contests, including the 2015 Al Quoz Sprint (1200m) in Dubai.
