MORE ROTORUA RICHES FOR PESO

A  year ago Peso, pictured, won a $23,000 R65 race at Rotorua.

Twelve months later he returned to Arawa Park today to win  the $50,000 Jakkalberry Classic. That’s what you call progress.

From the one gate, Rosie Myers gave Peso a calm ride, made her move at the right time and outmuscled Woodsman in a sprint to the line.

Nelson has no doubt that if  his charge had a kinder draw on Windsor Park Plate day at Hastings he would have won there too.

“It was a nice ride,” said Nelson today.

He has no immediate plans for the seven-year-old. “There’s lots of good races around. “We’ll have to  assess things.”

Xpression enhanced her 10000 Guineas claims with an effortless win at Ashburton.

She sauntered past leader Wekaforce 200m out and it was game over.

Her 1000 Guineas quote was quickly cut to $2.80.

Prince beats a Queen

Prince Oz, who hadn’t raced since mid-winter, toppled hotpot Prom Queen in the open sprint at Ashburton.

It was the former Raymond Connors-trained galloper’s fourth win at Ashburton.

Prom Queen got into an early speed duel with Jazzman, dropped out of it but was caught wide. She took the lead early in the run home but a hard-charging Prince Oz refused to be denied..
