Kiwi racemare Savvy Coup, pictured, will remain in Melbourne for further racing despite finishing second last in yesterday’s Cox Plate.
Co-trainer Michael Pitman confirmed the four-year-old mare will start next in the A$300,000 Matriarch Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on November 10.
“She has come through the Cox Plate well and dropping back to 2000m in a race for her own sex will help a lot,” Pitman said.
“She raced a bit keen early and didn’t finish the race off as well as I thought she would but it was a great thrill to see her in the race against Winx,” he said.
“I think she is capable of winning the Matriarch,” Pitman said.
Savvy Coup still won A$100,000 for yesterday’s outing which saw Winx score an unprecedented fourth Cox Plate victory.
