JJ’S WEEKEND TOP SIX

JJ’S WEEKEND TOP SIX

John Jenkins labels his six Best Bets for the weekend’s race meetings.

RUAKAKA, SATURDAY, 15/6/19

Race 4, 2.12pm

7 Stilton

A consistent three-year-old by Savabeel who was freshened after finishing 5th in a stakes race over 2100m at Ellerslie in March. Won a 1225m Taupo trial before a fast finishing 3rd over 1400m at Ellerslie last start. The step up to 1600m looks ideal and Samantha Collett takes over the reins.

Race 8, 4.31pm

7 Obsessive

An ultra-consistent four-year-old who has not finished further back than 5th in his seven starts and beat a strong three-year-old field over 1600m at Te Rapa last season. Resumed from a spell with a good 2nd over 1400m at Ellerslie on June 1 and should strip much fitter for this race.

AWAPUNI, SATURDAY 15/6/19

Race 4, 1.54pm

4 Dez

A tough winter galloper who has only had 13 starts for five wins and four minor placings. Won the Group 3 Winter Cup (1600m) at Riccarton last winter and is on target for that race again. Needed the run when a fresh up 6th over 1400m at Trentham and will be better suited by 1500m here.

ROSEHILL, SATURDAY 15/6/19

Race 5, 3.50pm

7 So You Win

A talented four-year-old by So You Think from the powerful Chris Waller stable who has recorded four wins and three minor placings from only 16 starts. Carried 9.5kg to an impressive win over 1800m on this track last start and has a kilogram less here. Drawn well and Jason Collett takes the mount.

Race 9, 6.37pm

5 Albumin

A very capable four-year-old from the strong Gerald Ryan stable who was placed in strong three-year-old races last season and has not been far away in strong races this campaign, including a last start 5th over 1100m at Randwick. Four of his five wins have been on the Rosehill track.

SANDOWN, SATURDAY 15/6/19

Race 7, 5.17pm

6 High Opinion

A consistent stayer who has won six races and recorded three consecutive 2nds, at Eagle Farm (2200m), Wagga (2000m) and Scone (2200m) before a last start 4th over 2400m at Rosehill. Looks well placed in this race and has enough early speed to be prominent throughout the 2150m, a big advantage on this track.
