John Jenkins labels his six Best Bets for the weekend’s race meetings.
RUAKAKA, SATURDAY, 13/7/19
Race 2, 1.02pm
A promising three-year-old filly by Ferlax who deserves to break through for a maiden win after four 2nds from 10 starts. Forget her last start failure over 1200m on this track as she was forced to cover plenty of extra ground from a wide draw. Drawn a lot better here.
Race 5, 2.49pm
A promising four-year-old from the strong Stephen Marsh stable who has recorded a win and four minor placings from only eight starts. She has struggled in very heavy tracks in two starts this campaign but is likely to strike much better footing here. Looks well placed in this field.
Race 6, 4.30pm
6 Poker Face
A consistent performer who has recorded four wins and 10 minor placings and is now trained on the Ruakaka track. Won well over 2100m on this track last start and should measure up well in the step up in class, especially from the number one barrier draw.
CAULFIELD, SATURDAY 13/7/19
Race 3, 2.20pm
8 Ballet Master
An ultra-consistent five-year-old who has won five races and has returned a dividend 15 times from 31 starts. Unlucky not to finish closer than 3rd over 1600m at Sandown last start where he got held up and charged home when finally clear to finish only three-quarters of a length from the winner.
ROSEHILL, SATURDAY 13/7/19
Race 3, 2.40pm
A talented five-year-old who has recorded three wins and has only once failed to returned a dividend from seven starts. Unlucky not to win over 1500m on this track last start where he got pocketed behind the leading division all the way up the home straight and only got clear in the final few strides.
DOOMBEN, SATURDAY 13/7/19
Race 5, 4.02pm
A promising four-year-old from the powerful Tony Gollan who has recorded six wins and six minor placings from only 21 starts. Forced to cover plenty of extra ground and got hampered in the running when 5th over 1400m at the Sunshine Coast last start. Drawn to get a better run here.
