Royal Ascot-bound Australian-trained sprinter Houtzen stretched her legs over 800 metres on Newmarket’s Rowley Mile track yesterday as the finishing touches are applied to her Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes (5f) preparation.
“Usually we would trial her but she hasn’t been able to do that obviously so we thought we’d give her a good blow-out on a nice grass track here this morning,” trainer Toby Edmonds said.
“I think it has done her the world of good and she got a fair bit out of it. She came up the hill really good and Jamie (Spencer) said she was better when she got to the rise. She handled it (the track) better today than the last time, she’s a quick learner.
Kerrin (McEvoy) will do a bit of pace work with her on Saturday morning and he’ll finish it off for us.”
