Frankie returns to Flemington

Frankie Dettori will be back at Flemington next month to attempt to cap an amazing season with his first Melbourne Cup win.

Dettori posted his 17th Group I win of the year aboard the John Gosden-trained Anapurna in the Prix de Royallieu at Longchamp on Sunday but will be desperate to add the Melbourne Cup to his glittering record.

Dettori has had 16 Melbourne Cup rides for two seconds and copped plenty of criticism for his ride on Almandin at his last ride in the great race in 2017.

Powerful owner Lloyd Williams has stuck with Dettori, booking him to ride the Joseph O’Brien-trained Master Of Reality, who was third in the Ascot Gold Cup in June.

Williams is likely to have three international Melbourne Cup runners with Latrobe and Twilight Payment also set to make the trip to Melbourne.

Sydney’s champion jockey James McDonald will ride Latrobe while Irishman Wayne Lordan will be aboard Twilight Payment.

Master Of Reality is a $21 chance in the latest Melbourne Cup markets.
