Fact is, if an Industrial Chemist was to be given a brief to come up with a substance that could be deemed 'The Poster Child' for contamination defences then they'd come up with DMSO. It's chemical make-up is such that it would damned near penetrate a brick & it spreads like a bucket of water tossed onto a marble floor. It is by no means any great stretch of the imagination for anyone on the defence side to suggest contamination as the source in this instance & with this particular chemical.
