tripple alliance 1,005 Report post Posted July 27, 2022 The punting is getting cheaper . The Waverley races for today have been abandoned after considerable rain on the track early this morning after a long period of wet weather. More rain is predicted today and there may be visibility issues for riders given the nature of the track .
chevy86 2,681 Report post Posted July 27, 2022 The day is surely drawing nearer for under-funded, often mis-managed Racing in this pluvial nation to go into recess for 2-3 months during winter? Insider and Gerrymir00

scooby3051 10,695 Report post Posted July 27, 2022 Its had to cover other meetings recently so the chickens coming home to roost...no Awapuni for months has lead to this...sorry state of affairs the way the tracks have not been maintained over the past decade and this is where we are now at...and you wait and see they won't try to reprogram it as its more savings for them makes the bottom line look better.Until there is a massive shake up nothing will change....the weather is just a smoke screen and a added bonus for them...if Waverly had been only holding its allowed meetings this would not have happened. Hard to say weather a smoke screen as Waverley always likes a race day but I suppose in the age we live in now when a club has to have a crystal ball and they get a lot of rain in a short period how do they know whats going to happen when jockeys turn up and say visibility issues then who looks the mug then? I sure all critics would be out then to solve the problem but there wouldn't be no one here that can control the weather
mulebacker 43 Report post Posted July 27, 2022 There has been NO rain in Waverly in the last 24 Hours apart from one a period for an hour about at 4AM this morning. Currently dry there. Shock horror an hour of rain in winter - who would have thought it possible ?? Visibiltry issues - there is an eclipse on the track at midday or are you talking about the kick up of mud into the trailing jockeys - - fairly normal for this time of year I would have thought . The lame excuses they come up with for what is the joke of NZ winter racing. Stick to the health and safety routine you probably get more traction

Agree. I have raced horses for many years and it has reached a cross road that there will be no racing in the winter. The reason poor track mantenance and facilties. Poor governance and leadership from the n.z.r.b.
shaneMcAlister 1,420 Report post Posted July 27, 2022 I personally think we must develop tracks that can handle over 20 race meetings a year. This requires investment (like ATR), hence why we need to figure out the tracks we are keeping for once and for all and invest in them so they can drain etc. All these short term fixes are just plugging the dam, AND costing money. pole, Ned Kelly and Huey
