The Queen has got a smart one

Given a 33/1 quote for the 2023 Derby.

The first foal of an unraced Dubawi mare but the dam's dam was Galatee (ex Galileo) whose best progeny, also owned by the Queen, was DARTMOUTH (ex Dubawi).

DARTMOUTH won a maiden at two but progressed slowly and was only a handicapper at three but improved considerably at four winning the Ormonde and the Hardwicke and recording his best rating (119) when finishing third in the 2016 King George.

At five he won the Yorkshire Cup beating a previous Oaks winner in SIMPLE VERSE but was only fourth in the Hardwicke and never really ran so well again.

There's little of note from him as a stallion.

re Dartmouth.....pretty tricky if you can't get mares in foal. Also let's be clear...Dartmouth was top class on his day. When he won the Harwicke, he rolled Highland Reel who won the King George and Queen Elizabeth at his next start. We of course remember Highland Reel in Aussie because he ran 3rd to Winx in the Cox Plate before winning the Hong Kong Cup at his next start.

Got to remember that this bloke is by (Sea the Stars....sire of World champions)...what I would call nearly an immortal stallion out of a Dubawi sister to a 120 rated horse who's dam is by Galileo from a seriously good family. On pedigree could go anywhere. Pedigree interesting because Sea the Star and Galileo are of course related.
