Canterbury stable inspections
Category: News
Date: 22/06/2022

On Monday 20 June and Tuesday 21 June Racing Integrity Board Stewards inspected 59 harness racing stables in the Canterbury region. The RIB General Manager of Stewards Nigel McIntyre was satisfied with the standard overall, acknowledging the positive and welcoming attitude of the licensees. Stable inspections are a routine function of the RIB however this was an opportunity for stewards to concentrate efforts over two days to maximise coverage, identify good practice and opportunities for improvement. It is an approach likely to be repeated.

They are hardly likely to tell them to 'F off' as then it would only look like they were hiding something. The concern is would they actually know how to investigate to find anything given the pearler of a job they did with INCA. The three blind mice could have been used for INCA as the end result would be the same 'nothing to see.'

No doubt the RIB will apologise to the Industry for conducting a witch-hunt which for years damaged the Integrity of a sport which they are supposed to be protecting.

End result they were trying to justify their positions but failed badly.

The funniest thing resulting from INCA is that the industry and public were led to believe the police started the investigation, yeah right. The police have come out since and said they never wanted to get involved.

If the RIB people doing the routine visits are helping educate when needed and are positively encouraging best practice (records,  welfare, security, etc) in stables, rather than acting like "Mr Plod's"  then we are far less likely to have people falling foul of the rules though ignorance and stupidity. And that's good for everyone in our industry.
