Nature Strip Simply Outstanding

Recommended Posts

This looks a great race to me

I can’t see Nature Strip being beaten if he’s at his best
Golden Pal is quick but he’s not a great traveler, and he’ll be tested late up the Ascot hill

The way I see it Golden Pal leads them up doing all the work, and gives Nature Strip a nice drag into it, then the big horse just strolls on by

The rest of them are jumpers and should be ten adrift

Informed thoughts please ……..

Agree in that field and probably still reasonable value at 2.70FO

is that quote from UK bookies   Shaw Todds 😲

That's the minimum I would say is value and happens to be the NZTAB price last I looked. Clearly you can get 3.25 or better elsewhere.

I’ve had something on him at $2.70 .. I reckon that’s fair value

What I can’t believe is the $1.40 the place FO…. he could run backwards and still be placed against these English sprinters, they’re just no good at the sprinting game,  and even by their low standards this is an awful field

I presume their best sprinters are waiting for the Jubilee … and even if they are Nature Strip will probably back up and beat them again

To put an NH perspective on this, I don't think there's been any doubt for some time the Australian sprinters are superior to the Europeans - on this evidence even the likes of BATTAASH or BLUE POINT would have struggled against the top Australians.

CHOISIR showed what was possible as did BLACK CAVIAR and nothing has changed since.

Whether the Australians can beat the best from Hong Kong or Japan I don't know but I'd like to see one day somewhere.

As for the Americans, Wesley's best tend to be younger horses who know their job better than the locals. The others are Dirt sprinters and that's a different ball game. Even British sprinters have gone and won the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint.

Does NATURE STRIP turn out on Saturday over 1200m?

He’ll run Saturday … it’s what the owners want and surely Waller will acquiesce

J Mac has to ride Home Affairs for Sir PJV and Coolmore, Jamie Kah rides the big horse, and he’ll trot up again

He relaxes really well and doesn’t pull for her and she clearly suits him

It’ll be really interesting because as he’s got older he’s taken a run more to hit his form, usually three runs into a campaign now, I suspect because he’s a bit fatter inside and because of his breathing

Saturday will be his third run in if you count the flight over as a run….he could easily run five lengths above what he did last night, and demolish them again

All he needs is something quick in there to lead him up so he does no work in the run

NATURE STRIP is rated 124 after today's romp. HOME AFFAIRS is rated 120.

When they last met, NATURE STRIP was giving 7 lbs - on Saturday they'll be at level weights (as a SH 3-y-o HOME AFFAIRS is equivalent to an NH 4-y-o).

HOME AFFAIRS is 15/8 favourite, NATURE STRIP 3/1.

Is it now time to have a serious bet on NATURE STRIP ?

Brilliant win. J Mac was more concerned at that riderless horse than anything else. Huge run by that horse too even minus jock.

Why they didn’t show Waller and co getting their trophies when they showed every other race was disappointing.

Baaeed won as expected, never touched. Something special that bloke.

Coroebus squeaked home, although Maljoom should have won by panels.

Great atmosphere and racing.

The value was yesterday….they were jumpers

Saturday he’ll be slightly more complexed, although re Home Affairs, NS should have his measure comfortably given that he meets him so much better off, and at Flemington when HA beat him NS missed the kick, and there was only a lip in it on the line……and in their recent trial before leaving Australia NS pounded HA & the Freedman horse, on the bridle

I shouldn’t be sharing this but NS traveled over far better too, he put weight on on the plane, the other horse lost a few kg ….read what you will into that ….if it matters at all

Nature Strip king of the world after Royal Ascot romp

Nature Strip – dynamic, dominant, brilliant, breathtaking.

There were not enough superlatives to describe Nature Strip’s virtuoso performance on racing’s biggest stage to prove he is the world’s best sprinter at Royal Ascot on Tuesday.

The Chris Waller-trained Nature Strip defeated an elite field to score a famous win in the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes (a1000m) before a huge crowd of more than 75,000 racegoers who watched the Royal meeting in glorious English summer sunshine.

Champion Nature Strip, ridden by James McDonald, started 9/4 second favourite but absolutely blitzed his rival with a stunning speed display to score by more than four lengths.

Nature Strip’s win provided Waller, Australia’s leading trainer, with his breakthrough international win.

Waller had wanted to take Nature Strip to Royal Ascot in 2020 and again last year but was prevented from doing so due to the global pandemic.

In hindsight, Waller felt this was a “blessing in disguise” as Nature Strip has matured into a more complete racehorse this season and dominated his King’s Stand Stakes rivals.

“Nature Strip has just got better and better,’’ Waller said.

“He is learning about his racing, enjoying his racing, and that was the difference between the horse from his early days. He used to try and get things done in a hurry all the time.

“But then he realised he could sit off them and still beat his rivals. It’s has been a privilege to be a part of this horse.’’

There was a big betting plunge on American speedster Golden Pal who firmed into 7/4 favouritism but Nature Strip was always solid on the second line of betting.

But the expected “drag race” between Nature Strip and Golden Pal never eventuated. Nature Strip was in a race of his own.

“We didn’t dare dream of a win like that,’’ Waller said.

“There are so many things that can go wrong but his preparation has been faultless.

“He has come a long way, a 40-hour flight, coming out of a winter in Australia to a lovely

Royal Ascot day and we were just hoping everything would go to plan.

“We are in awe of European racing and to finally bring a horse to Royal Ascot and showcase him on the world stage is a very proud moment.

“I know there were a lot of expectations back at home so hopefully we have made everyone proud.’’

There was certainly a significant Australian presence on track with national flags being waved proudly after the race.

Nature Strip is the first Australian-trained horse to win at Royal Ascot since the incomparable Black Caviar in 2012.

McDonald said Nature Strip was at his awesome best in his Royal Ascot romp.

“The way he quickened up the rise and the way he executed his gallop was scintillating,’’ McDonald said.

“It was an unbelievable feel coming up the race, he was airborne.’’

Nature Strip justified his world’s number one sprinter ranking and became the first winner of The Everest to subsequently be successful in a major overseas race.

Nature Strip’s Royal Ascot win capped a memorable 2021-22 racing seasons for Waller and McDonald.

Waller has trained his 11th Group 1 winners this season – and a total of 137 in his career – including The Everest and Melbourne Cup.

McDonald has ridden most of Waller’s big race winners this season and the King’s Stand Stakes was also the champion jockey’s 11th Group 1 of the season, and the 65th major of his career.

The trainer and jockey aren’t finished yet as they will combine with Home Affairs in the Group 1 Platinum Jubilee Stakes on Saturday.

Waller said the focus now will be getting Nature Strip back to Sydney to prepare for his defence of the $15 million The Everest title at Royal Randwick in October.

Nature Strip scored the 21st win of his 38-start career, his ninth at Group 1 level and took his earnings to more than $18 million, second only to Winx ($26.4 million) in the all-time rankings.

Waller’s super sprinter became the fifth Australian-trained King’s Stand Stakes winner after Choisir (2003), Takeover Target (2006), Miss Andretti (2007) and Scenic Blast (2009).

Nature Strip’s Royal Ascot win should ensure the chestnut secures a second Australian Horse of the Year title after he won the honour in 2019-20.

He won five of his eight starts including The Everest and Group 1 wins in the VRC Sprint Classic and TJ Smith Stakes.

Verry Elleegant, the defending champ, also had a great season with three wins from nine starts including Group 1 successes in the Melbourne Cup, George Main Stakes and Chipping Norton Stakes.

Hitotsu (Victoria Derby, Australian Guineas, Australian Derby) and Incentivise (Makybe Diva Stakes, Turnbull Stakes, Caulfield Cup) also won three times at Group 1 level and are in Horse of the Year contention.

I note Chris Waller is stating quite clearly that the horse is on his way home which kinda means he won’t be running in the Jubilee

They must be pretty happy with Home Affairs based on that.
Coolmore, Sir Peter Vela and Chris Waller Racing would love a win here as he goes to stud next season.

Artorious is also in that race and a strong 6f at Epsom might suit him.

Brilliant . Fantastic .etc...That makes up for Winx not tackling Royal Ascot. Chris getting the World Attention now , as a Melbourne Cup winning Trainer (with great NZ mare VE ) and near the World's best Sprinter in NATURE STRIP, doing it on the World stage in true Takeover Target , Choisir and Miss Andretti style !!!!!!!! loved it.

Chris was quick to mention his NZ heritage Training and James Mac being a kiwi as well during the Post race Interview. Giving NZ some great credit.

Well done Team Waller and NATURE STRIP connections . Bring it Home HOME AFFAIRS on Saturday !!!  can't wait . gunna be brilliant.
