Armory to join Mapperley Stud roster

Dual Group 2 winner Armory (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) will take up stud duties at Mapperley Stud in New Zealand in 2022.

Mapperley Stud joined forces with Windsor Park Stud to acquire the multiple Group 1-performer and multiple Group-winning son of the late multiple Champion Sire Galileo (Ire), with the studs having previously partnered up to stand Volksraad (GB), the winner of eight Champion Sire titles.

Trained by Aidan O’Brien, Armory won five of his 16 career starts and tallied up four victories at Group level, including winning the G2 Futurity S. at The Curragh as a 2-year-old in 2019.

Armory was unlucky not to win at elite level, contesting nine times at the highest level for eight-placed efforts including finishing runner-up behind fellow European-bred Sir Dragonet (Ire) (Camelot {GB}) in the G1 Cox Plate in 2020, with Group 1 winners Russian Camelot (GB), Arcadia Queen (Pierro), Fierce Impact (Jpn), Probabeel (NZ) (Savabeel), Kolding (NZ) (Ocean Park {NZ}) and Humidor (Teofilo {Ire}) in behind.

“We are thrilled to have secured Armory with our good friends at Windsor Park. We have a great history of working together and both our studs are looking forward to getting behind this high-class son of Galileo,” Mapperley Stud Principal Simms Davison said.

“We are strong believers that the Cox Plate form represents the best of the best, especially for stallions retiring to stud in New Zealand as we’ve seen with Champion Sire Savabeel.

“It’s the ultimate weight-for-age test and in his only Australian start, Armory demonstrated his brilliance and Group 1 ability to beat many of the best horses in the Southern Hemisphere.”

Pedigree gold IMO

classic Nijinsky, rainbow quest, warning, sadler’s wells, Danehill dancer, … all gold

Galileo as a sire of sires the main risk IMO. Others might be able to talk to the actual family pedigree.

He's an excellent addition to the Mapperley roster.

Looks quite athletic, and certainly not a heavy sort, from what I've seen of him in pictures and racing videos.

I like his juvenile form, he obviously had some speed to win twice at 7 furlongs.

Agree with Dopey, his pedigree has a nice structure. Love the fact he's  from a grand daughter of Danehill too.
