2Piper 404 Report post Posted May 5, 2022 Was listening to the radio (Senz) and they commented on the increase of banning offenses by players , most noticeably head contacts. Two of last weekends sending off involved head clashes .Surely these are accidential and have mitigating factors.?
Uriah Heap 481 Report post Posted May 11, 2022 They're generally viewed as "accidental, but preventable." The onus is on the defender to get low in the tackle. That is, the defender is expected to get low enough to prevent any head clash. I.e. If the defender lines up the ball carrier for a big chest tackle; but the attacker falls/trips/is tackled into his head or shoulder, then that defender is in trouble. That is the way it's being refffed. You'll often hear them say "Defender was not bent at the waist." That's bad for the defender.
