Keneperu 362 Report post Posted April 16, 2022 Big fields, full front line, some on second line, then a few of 10 meters. A recipe for a shambles of a start. Thats what we got at Addington yesterday. Your dreaming if you think 15 or 16 horses are all going to behave. I saw a video from Ireland of Handicap Mobile's. Seemed to work ok but in saying that only 8 or nine in each race. Maybe just maybe they could trial that here at workouts and trials. Having all those horses late scratched like yesterday is not good for the look of the sport. Just an idea .Works in Ireland so if the Irish drivers can make it work surely the kiwi drivers can? Nelli 434 Report post Posted April 18, 2022 Standing starts are used to create fair conditions when there is a big hcp spread. Usually inflicted on trotters, with horse numbers dropping, logically we should be seeing more stands for pacers. Surely it is time we get NZ's great technology boffins to develop a mobile hcp start. We've farmers getting virtual fencing on hill country and industries using visual light security barriers. Our current mobile barriers are 70 yo technology: its time for an update! Perhaps HRNZ and HR Australia should put up a prize and see what practical concepts pop out. lamour and Keneperu 1
Mccormick 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2022 I don’t feel it’s the starters fault. There are certain horses that are unfit for stands and that disrupt the rest of the field. If he got to start all trial races and workouts he’s available for then he could weed out such horses before they progress to a stand in races day conditions, almost removing that job from the RIB leaving them to focus on implementing the rules.
