say no more 382 Report post Posted March 23 Two comps to take part in this weekend. This one is a one-day points based comp and you will see a separate thread (to go up a bit later tonight) for an 8 week Lay Of The Day comp. How this comp works - pretty simple - pick two horses in each of the 12 races listed below, and nominate two races as your best bet races (earn double points in best bet races). Points scoring - you will earn points if your horses win or place, with the points earned depending on the horse's closing win dividend on the tote. The table below sets out the points earned. For example if in a particular race, one of your horses wins and it was paying $7.50 to win you will earn 6 points from that pick (note, not 6+2), and if your other pick runs 2nd and it was paying $12 to win you will earn 3 points from your second pick (combined score of 9 points for that race). May seem complicated but actually pretty easy. We're trying this scoring method to discourage everyone from simply picking the favourites (as tends to happen in a uniform points based comp), but to avoid a situation in a dividend based comp where someone picks a $60 winner and gaps the field. Let's see how it goes. Prize - once again Scooby has very kindly put up a $200 bet to the winner (most points earned). Prize is one bet with half of any collect kept by the winner and the other half recycled into future comps. say no more 382 Report post Posted March 23 A few more rules: Scratchings - you can replace up until closing time (separate post please), otherwise you go on TAB sub and then second favourite (lower saddle cloth number splits equal second favs). Abandoned races - comp run over remaining races - best bets on abandoned races can be shifted prior to closing time (again separate post please) but after closing time that's just the rub of the green. Dead-heats - uncommon but will allocate full Win or 2nd/3rd points for all dead-heating horses. Will use full Win dividend (not half) to determine points. Tie-breakers - there is a higher chance in a points comp that we will have a tie for first so will use the following to split any ties for first (in this order): - most winners picked - most selections earning points - most second placed runners If still tied after that then we just split the prize. say no more 382 Report post Posted March 25 A small clarification on the rules - in races where there are only two place dividends, there will be no place points for the 3rd placed horse. Just spelling this out because the little points table says "2nd/3rd" while the text refers to "place", so some ambiguity in this situation.
