Lose To Win - 2 Day Comp (Sat/Sun) - Day 1 entry thread - Saturday 12 March

Recommended Posts

Note, this is a two day comp run over both days of the weekend ahead.  There are two separate entry threads:

- this thread to enter your picks for Day 1 (Saturday 12th); and
- a separate thread to enter your picks for Day 2 (Sunday 13th)

How it works - in each of the races listed, pick one runner in each of the races listed who you believe will get beaten.  This is a risk-reward game - the more favoured the runner, the more points you will earn, however if your selection wins you will lose points and lose a life

Scoring - if your runner does not win you will earn points equal to 100 divided by the Tote win dividend, eg. if the tote dividend was $3.50 you will earn 100/3.5 = 28.57 points.  If your horse wins you will lose 50 points and lose one life You will have a total of four lives across the two days.   If you pick four winners over the two days you will be eliminated.

Best Bets - you must nominate two races on each day as your best bet races - you will earn double points in these races, but will also lose double points if your selection wins (-100 points).  Note, you will only lose one life (not two) if a best bet selection wins.

Posting deadline for day 1 is 12.30pm on Saturday - 13 minutes before the first race.

(see a few more details in my next post)

Day 1 races are as follows (15 races):

Pukekohe R1
Pukekohe R3
Trentham R3
Trentham R7
Flemington R1
Flemington R4
Flemington R5
Flemington R6
Flemington R7
Flemington R8
Rosehill R2
Rosehill R3
Rosehill R5
Rosehill R6
Rosehill R8

One selection per race, two best bet races, please enter horse's number (not name) and please post races in this order.

Prize - $500 bet to the winner.  Winner keeps half of any collect and other half of any collect is recycled for future comps, with $250.00 of that  contributed very generously by Insider....which is really appreciated.

The winner will be the person with the most points accumulated across both days, or in the very unlikely event that everyone is eliminated, the last person(s) eliminated, with total score (after elimination) used to separate people eliminated in the same race.

Scratchings - if any runner is scratched (either regular or late) you will earn zero points.  You can replace scratchings up until the posting deadline but not after - in a new post please.

Abandoned races - if any races are abandoned we will run the comp over the remaining races.  If you have a best bet in an abandoned race you can switch best bet races prior to the posting deadline (again advise in a new post).  If the abandonment happens after the posting deadline that is just the luck of the draw.

Dead-heats - in the unlikely event we have a dead heat for first in any race, each of the dead heaters will count as a winner and you will lose 50 points and one life.

If you're wondering why the odd assortment of NZ races, we wanted to have a few NZ races and I've tried to pick races that enable a spread of race start times.

Please note, CT's Espiona is in the last of the Rosehill races, so if he labels her again there might be some easy points on offer.  I actually fancy her chances.

and if you want to see a nicely bred, beautiful looking filly, check out Argentia in Race 5 at Flemington - looks a lot like her mum.

Hmmmm! It's going to be a bit like a game of chess

Chess is way out of my league VC - I'll stick to draughts.  Perhaps Kasparov will come and join this comp - I vaguely recall he did ok at these.  Imagine if we'd started last week - a best bet on La Crique in the Derby would have netted close to 154 points.

I would say draughts would come in rather handy for this comp SNM....Draught horses that is

Yeah a couple of La Crique BBs and you'd be Off and Gone, where have I heard that before🤫

Iv'e spoken to Kasparov and he's keen

I know this is one of your favourite comps SNM, now if I recall you're very good at picking the first winner, so perhaps maybe a little safety first up🙂

Looking forward to it, as is the vapour trail, some cracking races on the weekend lets hope the weather behaves

very good memory VC - I'm notorious at picking the first winner.  I reckon I'm due a change of luck this week though - one in the first race ticks a few of my lay boxes (jockey, a while between runs) and it's relatively short.  Once I've laid it, I recommend you get on :)

Only two best bets.  Let us know which one you want to drop.  If you don't see this, I'll take the first two, and drop the third.
