Berri 2,131 Report post Posted February 24, 2022 Can't understand why everyone isn't panicking 67% of the black type races in NZ have the profile of being on notice. This is potentially blood in the water, on the ground and on all of the bureaucrats hands. Can't think of anything better to shut the shop down further. Add to that the smell of Entain and TAB Corp circling the bait ball at NZ$1.4b and you'll realise that COVID has to be paid for somehow. Once the WHO take over our healthcare every thing else drops like dominos, yet we still wear masks and accept dubious vaccines because we are told they work and are safe and effective join the protests now your children are next Huey and Shad 1
Patiti 274 Report post Posted February 25, 2022 What is Entain and what has the TAB Corp got to do with anything. The black type races can be built up again with better race scheduling by NZTR? Huey

Black type races can only be built up if better horses race in our black type races. That's why we're in the shit. Not enough of them True, but so long as our stakes are poor, and the big dollars to sell to HK are on offer, or your horse is competitive in Australia for their fantastic stakes then sadly it’s an impossible hurdle to overcome, especially with the idiot management that we have had running the TAB and NZTR for the last 15+ years. stodge 1,940 Report post Posted February 25, 2022 There are two separate but connected issues - one is prise money in general and you'd better believe NZ isn't the only jurisdiction with that problem very much at the forefront. Britain and Ireland have dreadful prize money compared to France for example but Europe as a whole lags behind the UAE, let alone the USA and Hong Kong. This weekend at Riyadh, there's a 3000m handicap going for more than £1 million in win prize money which is comparable to Arcs and Derbies. The second issue is the black type programme and the proliferation of such races to keep the commercial bloodstock industry happy. If your mare scrapes third place in a moderate Listed race that equals black type and a good chance of getting a sale or being able to visit a top stallion. It's that which keeps the small and medium sized breeders happy. In truth, we have far too many Black Type races and many of them aren't much better than handicaps. There are always "plans" to review the pattern but they never seem to get very far and while it's easy to get a race on to the list, it's incredibly hard to downgrade races or even remove them entirely.
