Dear Valued Owner,

On behalf of NZTR we want to thank you for working within the COVID protocols during 2021.  We realise that not being able to go racing or, when we could go racing, not being able to mix with other groups on course has been frustrating.

However, thanks to you and our incredible licence holders adhering to the regulations racing has been able to continue.  We are now in the middle of summer racing and, by the end of the year, every region bar Northland, will be able to enjoy a day at the track.

NZTR is excited about the future of our industry as we move into 2022.  We have outlined our vision earlier this year and progress has already been made with several key reshaping projects, all designed to future proof our industry.

In July this year we were able to announce a $7m stakes increase for the period from 28 August-2 April 2022.  These increases were across the board, reflecting NZTR’s view that we need to enhance returns at all levels.

As we stated in the Annual Report, NZTR wants our stakes to be aspirational and improving returns for owners is a priority, a view we are sure you share.

When we announced those stake increases it was intended that we would address stake levels for the remainder of the season prior to Christmas.

Since then, though, the impact of the Delta outbreak has been felt across the industry.  We have been advised by TAB NZ that the Auckland lockdown has had a significant impact on class 4 gaming funds available for distribution to NZTR. There have also been significant subsidies which were not budgeted for to trainers in Auckland and Waikato, and to racing clubs affected by the public health response.

While it is encouraging that wagering has remained strong here and in Australia and that income from TAB NZ and corporate bookmakers continues to meet or exceed expectations, we are also mindful of the uncertainties which lie ahead, such as the recent emergence of the Omicron variant.

It is important to remember that TAB NZ and our international partners can only pay us on actual performance – they cannot guarantee our funding unless, as an industry, we earn it.

Bearing this in mind NZTR will complete our mid-year financial review and reconsider our forecasting before making further stakes announcements.  We have been budgeting to continue with the current programme of stakes and, given that we are entering the summer peak of our racing calendar, we continue to be optimistic that a successful summer’s racing will result in NZTR being able to make positive announcements in February.

We hope you and your family are able to play your continuing part in the success of our industry by getting on-course at one of our many summer venues and enjoying yourselves, hopefully with a winner or two.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,

More pulp fiction from these two Aussie clones/clowns. Covering their butts before the dreaded February stake announcements. Pity they haven't been more "aspirational" in their roles.

Oh come on....this is a complete 'see me through till retirement crap'  from them all.  They just bunny hop to the next job that comes along.  Pitiful people.

Job?

Do they actually ever work to know what a job is?
